Unhappy Unresponsive Keys?

I'm running a 900 MHz Athlon with 64 MB of on board video ram. I have been experiencing a low success rate in terms of emulation with the new ePSXe 1.5.1 emulator. The problem can roughly be described as unresponsive keys. The opening sequence will play, and I can skip it by hitting 's'(X) or 'ctrl'(START), but when I get to the "Press start to continue", the key's aren't acknowleged, or something is mis-configured. I went through the steps on www.ePSXe.com, and it still doesn't work. (Among the games that do work: Xenogears, Breath of Fire 3, Final Fantasy Tactics. And those that don't: Final Fantasy 9, Dino Crisis, Alundra, Breath of Fire 4) Any help would be appreciated. Soon, if possible. And I have triedd various combinations of CD-ROM/sound/graphics plug-ins.

Have you tried hitting f4/f5?

I just did, but my graphics choked up so I need to reconfigure them. What does F4/F5 do?

f5 switches between digital and anologue, and f4 enables/disables SIO irq.
