Yes there are bios'. No it won't work. That would be the equivalent of soldering the ps2 boot chip in a psx.

Its going to be a good few years before any emu will run ps2 games on the pc.

BIOS =/= Entire Friggin Console
its only a small, but integral, part. as beta said, try soldering a ps2 bios into a psx and see what happens..

Yeah sure, and the games (if they run which is 99.9999999999% impossible) will run at .005 FPS.
And after 5 mins you'll get the messege: "NOT ENOUGH MEMORY"

I remember the psemu emulator...4-5 yrs ago it was the same!
Games rans at 4-6 fps (approximately) and everybody thoughts about the psx emulation future (and bleem! had open up our eyes...) then CVGS comes as a dream and (luckly) Epsxe comes as the emulator master (!!!) and now we can play a game at 50-60 fps. We must wait and all will happen again

Well, it WILL happen, barring any lawsuits and stuff like that, the only question is, are we all patient enough? I know I'm not, so I'm going to buy a console for the holidays this year.

Why don't you try?

As an aside, before anyone else PMs me about the BIOS, let me tell you right from the start that:

1. I'm not sharing it. Go look for your own.

2. It could even be just a dummy file. So until PCSX2 actually uses a PS2 BIOS we can't be sure if the one I'm holding is the real deal.

Isn't this the question, the starter of the thread asked? I don't get this.

um probably not

The chip architecture is all different. While the PS2 is backwards compatible with PS1, it probably does it with a mini-PSemulator hard coded into a ROM chip somewhere. Any PS2 emu is going to have to be written from almost the ground up.

In other words, I'd bet 50 bucks the answer is 'no'.

All speculation on my part, but I think I'm right here.

As stated in other threads, the PS "emulation" is done by a seperate chip in the IO controller of the PS2. Rather than emulating it, they just chucked a PS1 in there, and allowed the PS2 to do bilinear filtering.
