Problems with emulation..

I'm using ePSXe, so I thought this would be the best place to ask..

I've bought Final Fantasy 9 off my friend, and paid him for the playstation and all that junk. I legally own FF9 and the Playstation, but the playstation is broken, so I'm using emulation.

Now, no matter what emulator I use, whenever I try to load the CD, all I get is'Published by Squarsoft Inc.' and then my CD rom drive starts to rev up and stops, then does it again and again. Whorling, I call it. Eventually it stops.

I'm on a 550 P3 with a GeForce3 and 256SDram. I have a 40x cd rom drive (not sure if it's RAW compatible or whatever, I downloaded a CD plugin to bypass that and it doesn't work), and I meet all the requirements for ePSXe.

Help the poor befuddled newblet. If you want more info just ask.

By the way, I have absolutely no idea how to make an ISO. Call me a end user if you want.

All I want to do is finish FF9 so I can brag about how I've beaten all of them up to FFX

ok! so lets just presume that you have a fine undamaged cd of ff9 (four of them right? ) and you have a fine cd reader. since you said you have original cd's you shouldnt have any problems
now...
ISO is a image of a cd. on your HDD it's just one big file
you can use programs like Clone CD, CDRwin,or any other copying programs. the new epsxe 152 will have support for NERO

you just put the cd in your reader, copy it as an iso image to your drive, start the emulator, an go to file->run image(or run iso, not sure)

if you need additional help we'll talk about it

btw. i finished ff9 on epsxe and it works PERFECTLY!!!!

Alright, i tried making an ISO.. Same problem. The ISO got to about 50% done and then the CD drive 'whorling' start. There were two errors at the start..

CD Drive does not support 96-bytes subchannel data!
ATAPI 40x CD rom drive is not compatible with CloneCD's Read Mode 'Read subchannel data from data tracks and Extra Info'!

My guess is I need a new CD rom drive..

No, but maybe your CD is scratched, and that could affect it.

No, not at all. Subchannel data is only necessary for a few copy-protected CDs, including the PAL version of FF9. And even if your CDs were copy protected, there are other ways to bypass the protection (PPF files, M3S files...).

Now, if you still want to try making an ISO, try Blindwrite, as G-Pitts recommended. It's very a friendly tool, and it handles much better scratched CDs.

Edit: Sorry, G-Pitts. Fixed now.

Sorry, got lost in all the lingo. I doubt my copy of FFIX is a UK version, because it has French Canadian language support.

Once again, the only problem is with the FIRST disk. I had it working ONCE, but then it screwed up again, and hasn't worked since.

And how do I use blindwrite? It doesn't recognize my CD player.

Have you install the patin couffin engine and configure it properly?
You must use blindread to make CD image. When you start blindwrite, select the left icon which show CD to HD arrow.

A;right, I've made it find my CD drive.. I go into 'Dump Image' mode and it says it isn't configured properly.

EDIT: The hardware access layer isn't configured properly.

Go to general setting then press next. You should see "select/test the cd access layer button" , click that button. Choose patin-couffin hw access driver and click install/update button then follow any other instruction the program give.

OK, I'm pretty sure, but not certain. Try following the steps in my FAQ for CDRwin, if Blindwrite don't work.
