Pro/Con Linux + epsxe
So whats the pros and cons using epsxe in linux?
Is Nvidia the only company that produces drivers for linux and do they have all the features as the windows(minus directx features)? What about image quality/speed/sound quality/compatibilty? I was think about removing windows from my computer altogether but I want to be able to play emu's as good as possible. I have run epsxe in linux before but all I got was a blank screen but i am upgrading to a geforce4 ti4200 as soon as it comes out so that should be better |

epsxe linux
epsxe works perfectly in Linux. The only thing lacking is a good game pad driver. But I haven't checked in a couple weeks. That may be fixed now too.
And yeah, nVidia is the way to go for 3D. Hardcore dudez may wanna mess with ATI, but nVidia cards are a snap. Just gotta download and install drivers (as easy as Windows, or easier actually). Instructions are on the download page. |

ePSXe runs beautfully in Linux, but only if you have a fastish computer, say 800MHz+. As detailed in this thread the fps timing in Pete's plugins is a little dodgy at slower speeds, and you won't be able to get a stable framerate.
Also, I've found that there aren't any really decent SPUs for Linux. Pete's Dsound equivalent for Linux is a little underdone, and linuzapp's SPU causes a Segmentation Fault. Hey bobcat, are there any alternatives to these two? Is there a linux build of Eternal SPU? |

SPU
I use Pete's OSS. It works great for me.
Remember the one bug in the Linux version: You MUST open the "Configure Graphics" dialog window. You don't have to change anything, just open it once. Then run the game. If you don't do this, epsxe will seg fault every time. |

Is that right? Hmm ... maybe I'll be able to get linuzapps' SPU working after all.
Do you find that with Pete's OSS you get only half the music? FFT seems to be missing some instrument lines in the songs, like a song will be missing the cello or something like that. |

Oops, sorry, my bad ... I realised I was missing notes because I was running from a Savestate, after a while everything sorts itself out. But there's still the problem of dodgy sound effects all over the place with Pete's OSS.
