I cant get more than 14 fps

Hey, I sold my ati rage and but the old card back in my computer. It says its an GDI Generic. When I try to use petes opengl it ranges about 4 to 25 fps when I play any game. When I try d3d, or dx6 d3d plugins, epsxe just crashes. What should I do? Right now I'm using peops and other soft plugins, but I rather use a hardware one. Thanks ever.

I think that the card you are using is probably a very old card and you might not be able to use the plugins properly. Make sure you have newest drivers for your card (if they exist) and try using the software rendering plugin for epsxe. It's supposed to be good for any card.

If that doesn't work, try petes DX6 D3D plugin, but turn it to FAST settings. Might be better.

GDI Generic = software driver that comes with Windows... in other words, you can't get any hardware acceleration whatsoever. What card is it btw? If you have an old S3 or Trident or something like that, then you're stuck with a software plugin, as the 3D acceleration support on those cards are... well..... almost non-existant.

I dont know exactly what the card is. I usually found out what it was by using the paste function with pete's plugins. Is there another way to find out?

Go to the "Settings" tab of Desktop Properties in Windows. It'll usually tell you what video card is installed.

Now, having an nVidia Riva TNT2 but it shows as "GDI Generic" in Pete's plugin means that you don't have the proper drivers installed. Look for an older version of Detonator driver (version 6.xx or 12.xx works pretty well with TNT2 cards if I'm not mistaken) on the web somewhere, and install it. You should see a significant improvement.

Get an older one... the newer Detonator drivers are not optimized for the TNT2 cards.

Your safest bet is to get the oldest one available for W2K, and then move up.

Best way to find out the version of your card is Open up DirectX Diagnostic function.

Go to your C:\ drive

Then open program Files

Then Open up DirectX Diagnostic.

And click on Display1 or Display.

It will look something like this.

24 actualy, and unlike tv, in which the frames are blended into each other, Computers render a series of still frames. If you get upto around 100FPS, it will look smooth to the human eye. with motion blur, you can get away with much less.

You could, I mean it's still compatible with the TNT2, although I don't know how much you'll get out of it. Nvidia only has the latest release driver on their site. Go to www.guru3d.com or something to get older releases.

That's so untrue.... if you can't see any difference between 12fps and 24fps (or any higher fps, for that matter), time to see your optometrist

There got it working. I tried one of the drivers you said, and it didn't work, so I went and installed the latest drivers for win2k, and it works great. Thanks guys.
