Unhappy Wip3out PAL

:help:

I'm trying to play with Wipe3out (Wipeout 3) PAL original CD, but whatever I do, it freezes shortly after the race start (just after the lazer).

Iv tryed it on 3 computers with differents CPU (Athlon700,PentiumIII-900,Celeron-900) with different OS (win98SE with all patches, WinXP Pro, WinXP home) with different gfx boards Voodoo5-5500,Geforce2Go,SiS) with differents plugins (pete's V1.54 to 1.57, lewpy glide, null's, eteral, ....) with 2 versions of epsxe 1.4.x 1.5.x, with different settings, with differents joysticks (even a psx one with smartjoyusb adapter), differents CDROMS/DVDROMS/SCSI/IDE.

But always the same result: freze just after the lazer. If I go in tho the wrong way, it frezes shortly after been out of the start area.

I've also tryed to use a PPF File, but I obtain an unknown opcode before the 1st video.

My CD is an original one bought in France. There is no read error (I tryed to make an iso to test this)

All my other games are working perfectly.

the strange thing is that wipeout 3 seems to be reported as "works fine" in the compatibility list?!?!?!

here is a tipical epsxe end of session when running wipeout 3.

Please help! :help:

You must use a PPF (protection) patch to get this game to run as far as I know..
You should be able to find it pretty easy.
Use petes cd plugin to add the patch on the fly or use ePSXe's new feature which does the same thing (see the docs for what to do)
If u need help then ask but I cant point you to the site with the PPF files on.
NGEMU was going to make a new page with these patches on but I dont know if its up yet.

Thumbs down PPF Files tested but no success

I've tryed 2 PPF files, but no success.

One which is 1.7Meg (paradox) and crashes before 1st video
Second one small, and does nothing.

I've tryed thoses patches in the Plugin, and in the V1.5.0 PPF section, both with no success

My version is PAL europe, and I think thoses patches are for this version.... Did I missed something?

Having an original game and being unable to play with it :-(

You need use the ppf file in order to get it working, search it in megagames.com, and copy this ppf file to epsxe\patches directory using the SCES/SLES* code what you can read exploring the cdrom,

if the things are going correct you should see a different message to this:
* Patching game ... not found.

Only a thing more, don't use the internal w2k cdrom plugin.

Good luck,
Regards,
Carlos.

Yahooo it works!

Many thanks for your HELP  , my problem was:

I was using the internal cdrom driver (epsxe core)
It seems that even under win98 it doesn't work.

I'm using pete's cdrom plugin, but now I've lost music, I only have soud.

I'll try pete's on my other drive (DVD) and I'll try other cdrom plugins.

Final Solution

I have the final solution:

- the internal cdrom plugin work well for all games except when you are using PPF files
=> Need to use another cdrom plugin.
So I tryed pete's CDR plugin:
=> Game is completely playable with sound effects
=> The CD audio tracks were not playing.

The problem was: My CDRW doesn't like playing audio with this plugin so I tryed My Hitachi DVDROM drive GD2000, and it is Ok.

BTW, why do I need PPF files with original CDs???
- Is it an hardware limitation of the PC CD drives?
- or is it related to a technical choice in the emu?
