ff9 lock up. help!!!! :(

ok, here i am with another ff9 (ntsc) problem, m pllaying it with epsxe 1.4, and lock ups frequently occur, the game will just stop at random points. lock ups occur 5 or 10 mins after the start of the game..

weird thing is i tried pressing f4, then the game resumed for a second or two then the game resets!!! is this fixed in 1.5? or do i have to do something bout my memcards? please help!!!

edit:i'd also like to know what the f4 key is for? i know its for enabling SIO IRQ or sumting like that. but what does it actually do?
