Hopefully my last problem

So , im at the part in final fantasy 9 where you just left the dwarves place and you go into the forest that the black mage came from. My game was working fine until this point, however when i go to fight a battle after i enter their forest i can hear the 'fight' music but my screen stays blank ! First time this has happened yet. So i tried switching from petes open gl plug in to software and its still the same problem.. any help would be appreciated !

Im not sure how big the forest is but even if someone would get past this little part for me ! (unless you have to do a lot in the forst then i may have to try and figure this one out)
