ubuntu epsxe non starter (help :( )

Hi all

Been trying to get epsxe running through ubuntu. its hardy herron and tbh i've tried on other versions and had the same

plugins installed and in the right place but as soon as you go to run anything it closes itself.. interestingly pcsx does the same..

is there any kind of error output file so i can at least get some idea whats going wrong?

i am useing epsxe 1.7.. is this likely to be a cause?
