EPSXE won't run all of a sudden

I've been playing FF8 for a while, made it disc2.

I took a week's worth of break from playing, then decided to play again.

However, after I choose the load state, and before the game gets controllable, epsxe suddenly crashes.

The window that appears has this error message:
Opcode 3f UNK (PC 0000000088) (2469,111)

Sometimes, the error message would go like this:
SPEC Opcode 38 UNK (PC 00000088) (00000080) (2522,k 128)

So now I can't play anymore.. What's the problem here?

Use the in-game save (memcard) rather then savestates. savestates tend to get corrupted over time.

apart from jonc question witch you should look into first did you also tryed another version of epsxe like for example if you use 1.6 trying to use 1.52 and vice versa

btw are you playing from the disc or are you playing from an image? have you tried both methods?
