[PEC] hacking...Emulated CPU "overclocks" after a memdump

Yet another passing question:

I am using ePSXe 1.6.0 (the real thing) on a win98SE system w/256mb RAM, on an Athlon 1.33GHz processor, and when I use the <ctrl>-H to start hacking with the second-best trainer on PC to date, the game runs at an erratic or higher clock speed than normal once I return from the first search. Mostly, this isn't that big a problem as the game speed only increases 150%, but is there a setting/hack/fix that can either maintain the intended frameskip rate or retain the virtual CPU clock so that I don't have the issue of not being able to hack such things as "timed button combos" (such as for Twisted Metal 2 "freeze-burst", requiring a button combo entered in a predetermined time), which I am simply not fast enough to perform at that clock speed.

Just curious if there was a fix, or maybe this too can be brought to PEC/ePSXe dev's...
