Problems with running games

Well, When i run a game it plays at 250fps
Which is quite annoying.

Im running P.E.Op.S graphics plugin

I tried using the frame limiter at 60fps but then the game doesnt even load.

Can anyone help me troubleshoot it?

post a screenshot of your video settings. what game is this, is a specific one or is it every one you try? is your pc capable of handling a hardware based plugin like one of petes d3d or openGL plugins? and what kind of cpu do you have, is it a single or multi-core?

Screenshot of my configurations, Just zoom in. (really hate photobucket)

The game is Final Fantasy 8
I got it to run smooth for a bit but cuts out at this one scene, I believe the problem is my cd drive.

Im running an old vaio, I believe it was made in 01 or 02
512ram decent graphix card (not great enough for wow >
single core Intel celeron(i believe) 2ghrz processor

I think i figured out the problem already, Its most likley my cd drive is incredibly old and worn out, Im gonna test with an Iso, ill post those results later.

from that screenshot there i would suggest turning vsync on, that could be why the game is going so fast.

if you want to try to use the way i have epsxe set up this is what you should do:

use the ePSXe CDR WNT/W2K core 1.5.2. cdrom plugin, enable subchannel reading.

for video try using petes d3d dx6 1.76 plugin with settings like mine

Plugin: Pete's DX6 D3D Driver 1.1.76
Author: Pete Bernert
GFX card: NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS

Resolution/Color:
- 1920x1200 Fullscreen - [32 Bit] (ignore my res.)

Textures:
- R8G8A8A8
- Filtering: 6 (0 or 4 are alternate ones)
- Hi-Res textures: 0
- VRam size: 256 MBytes (set to auto or your card's amount)

Framerate:
- FPS limit: on
- Frame skipping: off
- FPS limit: 60.0

Compatibility:
- Offscreen drawing: 3
- Framebuffer texture: 2
- Framebuffer access: 4
- Alpha multipass: on
- Mask bit: on
- Advanced blending: hardware

Misc:
- Scanlines: off [0]
- Unfiltered FB: off
- Dithering: off
- Screen smoothing: on (turn this off, your system might not be strong enough for it)
- Full vram: on
- Game fixes: on [00000001] (enable any fixes that go with the game that you are currently playing, if none exist for your game just ignore this part)

for sound use eternal spu 1.41 with settings like mine:

i have the top 3 boxes ticked

in the actual config mine is set up like this:

audio device- directsound
buffer size- 80 (doesnt have to be this, so set it to your preferance)
audio-out method- thread

all 3 special game fixes enabled

"wait for XA buffer is free" enabled under the "misc" section

neill's reverb

Well I changed my Vsync. That dramaticly increased how it looked. I have problems every once in a while with scene switching, it pauses and the sound loops (each loop is 6 loops per sec, Ex. bird chirps at the end of a scene and in the middle of a scene switch it loops for about a few seconds, I always worry that it will crash. Well we will figure it out in time.

in case you dont know already, vsync makes it so the framerate never goes higher than your moniters refresh rate, its basically a FPS cap. i dont think it should have any negative effects on visuals, since its intended purpose is to eliminate a visual problem called tearing. do note that vsync has some noticable drawbacks, without triple buffering, which i dont think epsxe has an option for, your framerates will be lower, in some cases halved. so you may or may not want to use vsync as a method to limit your framerate. the only way i think you can get vsync with triple buffering enabled is by using your videocard to force it onto an application (that is if you card can do this sort of thing, it may or may not be able to force things like this), in this case epsxe since as far as i know does not have a triple buffering option. its possible some plugins might have this sort of feature but i do not know of any myself.

have you tried setting epsxe like i have mine? while you might need to adust some things in those settings i posted in order to suit your hardware, for the most part it should work. btw what version of epsxe are you using? some games dont work well under version 1.6.0, so you might want to try playing your game on version 1.5.2.

there is also a game fix call "use pc fps calculation", you might want to see how your game runs when you enable that, there is one of my games that works better with it enabled so try seeing what that fix does for you, it can be enabled/disabled in your video plugins config.

if none of this works for you and you still are having trouble, you might want to try using another emulator like psx, psx doesnt use a plugin system so its much easier to use, however psx does not have graphical enhancement features like epsxe so it might or might not be something you want.
