Well, I don't find the game very hard but I've been playing RPGs a long time, plus I've played several titles by Enix with their skill system. This is my first time through and I'm playing hard mode, since I read more items and characters are available. Wouldn't having access to more powerful weapons and characters actually make the game easier? ^^

Oh, and please don't post any spoilers... I'm only about 10 hours into the game.

Also, psico, what settings do you use? I like how your screenshots look.

...I hated Barbarossa! You didn't even get Exp. points.

Anyway, I read that the Easy mode is said to be actually the hardest, because you can't get some of the more powerful weapons which makes the last battle exceptionally hard.

This is true, actually! I tried playing it on easy mode, but it was actually too hard. You can't get the best weapons nor items, and some of the greatest chars can't be taken!!
And you can't even get the ending A on easy mode!!!

The Hard mode is not THAT hard actually. It takes longer to level up, but you can get some fantastic items! And since all the chars start at level 1, its easier to control their abilities, since you can use items that raise their stats faster when leveling up!

Not only that: Imagine how many Capacity Points are wasted everytime you get a character above Lv. 16 (I think), because they can't get more than 999 at once.

I'll definitely try the hard mode (once I finished the game )

Hard mode is definatly the easist but also the most fun..... the first few random cavern dungeons can get very hard on hard though... but you can avoid battles and fetch items in those.

I've only been to one cavern so far, which had no monsters and only a golden egg. I hope the rest are better...

Well, the easy mode starts easy (cheap enemies, lots of experience, plenty of time to level up etc. p.p.) and the hard mode hard, but later in the game it seems to become a bit different.

Of course. There are three difficulties to choose from which differ in the amount of characters to get, dungeons to visit, gained Exp. pts and so on.

Plus: The best ending can only be seen in Normal or Hard mode.

Sure, but for the first time playing Normal mode will be more than enough.

I dunno, I thought Hard Mode was tougher... *shrug* Maybe I just understand Enix games... or maybe I'm just weird.

Hard mode is probably easier only for experienced Enix or VP players. The dungeons are harder and all characters start at level 1 when you recruit them. Different dungeons with better loot (and harder puzzles/monsters), more items and more characters available is the tradeoff... I went ahead and chose hard mode for my first time through since the game's skill system is similar to Star Ocean 2 (another Enix title) and I've played many Enix games... so I didn't find it particularly hard, but some of those puzzles are annoying!

Anyway, here's a few more screenshots...

Ch33t0r!

I never ever saw Jin (Jun?) inflict such a massive amount of damage against a dragon zombie. Physical attacks usually result in 1 (one) HP damage against them!

i doubt melly would cheat considering the discussion about difficulty level. besides, look at the last screen shot. that's hardly hacking damage.
but, who knows maybe you're right. although, i do remember a way to do that much damage to undead, i just don't remember what it was.

There are a few special weapons you can equip that might break, that gives that much damage to undead.

Nah, this is actually possible without cheating. The special weapons actually do a heavy damage to the given type of creature. For example, the "Dragon Slayer" can inflict about 20000 HP for each hit on dragons.

The bad side is: most of these weapons have a 5% chance of breaking for each hit!
