EDIT: btw.. use your icq dammit i dont use MSN cause i hate the way the client glues himself to everything usefull and slows it down (Namely outlook express) ..

Winamp 5 is as fast as Winamp 2. I can enable freeform skins and desktop alpha blending with no apparent speed loss. It is slightly buggy with some skins, but nothing drastic. Like Chaosblade said, if you want it, search for it.
