Can someone please give me some guidelines on how to keep my desktop less populated. I always aim to keep it that way after a fresh windows install, but it doesn't take long for that to change
Videos, text files, pictures, power point presentations, world document, excel spreadsheats, wepages saved in HTML format and PDFs don't belong on the desktop EVER. Don't keep propper folders there either. The desktop is NOT an effective storage location as it's coupled to the windows installation, that's what your C drive and custom folders are for.
No need for a shortcut to each drive when My computer offers access the same way with just a single extra click.
Group applications and place their shortcuts in a folder called say system apps, then either put a shortcut for that folder on the desktop or create a new toolbar for it.

Good ideas, maybe i'll try some of 'em and see what i get.

Anyway, I don't use the desktop for a permanent storage place only for temporary images which, say, I want to upload here or something. Even the more important files have regular backups in folders in other drives.

What are the small thumbnails at the bottom of first screen? Are those minimized windows? or something new.
Here's my new one

when you hover the mouse over a taskbar button, it shows those live previews of all minimized windows (by groups). so, no more texts in the taskbar, only icons. that's the Superbar.

the live thumbnail thing was already on vista, but provided a small preview of the minimized window while 7's superbar make it essential to access and restore minimized windows. Also, WMP12 can be controlled by that.

Here is my new ubuntu (8.10) envoriment, after finally getting hardware support in the legacy driver support for newer kernels from nvidia

As usual, one rotated browser and a4-projects screen, and one for hdtv-playback and games.

It's the default 8.10 look since i haven't messed with the layout yet, but yeah it is nice

I spend most of the time to optimize the starting resources and tweaking mplayer for smoth 720p+ playback, and fixing the xscreen layout with the two monitors

The backdrop, which can't be seen that much, is a screenshot from the BBC Planet Earth series, in 720p
