Talking HDRI - Learning the Joys.

HDRI (High Dynamic Range Image) is an extremely usefull method of producing 'realistic' lighting and GI (Global Illumination) in 3D Studio Max R6 (or above), either with Mental Ray / Scanline / Brazil renderers.

Been teaching myself the basics of setting up a scene to use HDRI.

Rather good fun, and if your a 3D modeller looking for that extra sexy realism, then well worth learning.

A general simple explination of HDRI can be found here

Yeah the ground is just a 'plane' with a jpg for a texture, gonna do a proper 'modelled' terrain later.

The HDRI out scene I am working on atm looks eerie with 'realism', esp when I put my 'Jessica' model into the scene, but she consists of 206,048 polys (clothing etc). Need to tweak the hair / skin shaders for her, but each frame takes 34 minutes to render, and doing the animation is a bytch with those 'per frame' render times.
