JPG compressed TIFFs, is there a point?

At high quality settings, tiffs with jpeg compression are about 30% smaller than other tiffs. However, this comes at the cost of lossyness (which flies in the face of the very concept of tiffs). In addition, you can get the same quality with much smaller filesizes by using actual jpgs.

The jpg is smaller, yet much higher quality.
There could be reasons to use tiff (although png is much better), and there are reasons to use jpg, but there is no reason at all to use tiff with jpg compression. Makes me wonder why they even bothered to include the jpg compression option.
