But what I was saying is if you give MS Paint to one unskilled person, and then Photoshop CS3 to another unskilled person, chances are that the person with Photoshop CS3 can pull off a much more professional job than the person with MS Paint.
The better the tools are of an unskilled person, the easier it is it produce something which looks similar to a skilled person with crappy tools.
In other words better tools are likely to enhance artistic ability no matter the skill.

well you have to at least know what you're doing

if you don't know how to use photoshop, then you can only create pics that look like mspaint.

No. I build my own touch-sensitive displays. ;p It only costs like *edit: censored for sensitive materials*

I forgot I shouldn't post that...

If you have spare parts, just add them into the box, along with a few Sharpies (btw, speed painting might look impressive when you see it rolling, but ultimately, it has to *not* suck at the end ).
Tools still matter, nothing will change that. Excellent artists can do quality work out of anything.

And with this, I end the pingpong party with prisoner, and announce a return to the topic...

Pics or get out ;p

Providing you have a bit of common sense you should be able to figure out how to make superior art to MS paint in a few hours of playing around with stuff...

photoshop has so much features it confuses the hell out of me.

i still use MSpaint whenever i'm doing some quick editing, since it takes me forever to figure out what all the buttons do in photoshop.

its hard to even switch to your Alternate Color.
i know theres some hot-key for it, but i always forget what it is.

in mspaint you just click on teh box, and you have your alternate color

Photoshop Elements should be the version more suitable for you (very significantly more userfriendly. No too significant differences, when comparing with the big bro - apart features that matter more to the print industry and deadserious artists with specific professional needs)

Rather than wasting 1 mb of ram on MS Paint, using Paint.NET would be better (a definite contender on usability and functionalty, compared to the big players)

Photoshop Elements does look easier.

i don't do much computer graphics/photo editings though.. in the future i'm going to read more about photoshop and learn how to use the advance features. but i don't have the time now, as i'm currently learning 3d directX programming.

anyways,
heres a pic i did about 1 year ago when i was learning how to draw anime.
its my first CG picture; not my best work, but i don't have my other pictures scanned yet.

please feel free to critique.
i might start drawing again... so i need some pointers
looks DBZ-inspired.
..and you seem to have a similar "I can only draw the front" problem as I have.
The hand's drawn pretty well actually, and the coloring is neat.

I use 3 quarter view. Has the most depth.

well, I always try to make it look a bit like a front-sideview, in my case it's some sort of lame coverup for the "I can only draw the front"-problem, and it still ends up looking like a "2D" image (as if it's a cardboard cutout).

As for paint tools... paint.net here... If I were a professional, I'd use something better, but I'm not, so it suits me well enough.

Need tutorials? I think I'll write some...

Here's a fact: if you do an artwork, chances are, you won't touch more than the Brush tool. If you touch up some photos or artworks, maybe you'll go down to something lower on the list...

Just click the box in Photoshop.

Anyway, for those who can't do more than front views or cardboard cut-outs, here's a tip: just do cardboard cut-outs.

thanks for the comments.

its kindoff a mix of different anime art-styles; i like DBZ, but they're drawn a bit too muscular; i tried to not add so much muscles.

yeah i can only draw people from the front lol.
i have 1 drawing where i did 3 quarter view, and it came out pretty good.
i'll post it after i scan it... but i have final exams this week, so i'll have to find the time to actually scan my pics

well if you have the time to write some, it would help me out.
but like i said, i'm a bit busy currently with final exams and learning directX programming.
so perhaps, now not the best time to start learning photoshop

Yeah but even there it differs, how well does the program utilise the mouse, how many brush styles are you given, how easy is to change them, how many sizes, what sort of shortcuts does it offer, how many undo's, how much zoom etc. etc. so even there a better program makes a difference...

Um... I meant to say all those for Photoshop. Sorry for the confusion. I think the discussion about tools for artists ended. Now is the time to show some skills, it seems. Ain't that right, Riki?

Oh yeah, and I don't see anything in your DA, Riki. Can you... at least post something? Pretty please? (going to die from not seeing art, you know!)

Yoko from Tengen Toppa Gurren Laggan
(its a habit of mine to draw stuff from anime's/games i recently watched/played )

...and another excuse on try to learn more on how to draw female figues 0_o, quite annoying haha. I doodled her on what i remember from the anime, sorry if there are inconsistencies on the details, will prolly try to fix it later -_-
Also, i wrapped her Sniper rifle since i dunno how to draw the details lol...
*goes out and smashes random crates and barrels*

Just a test , ive never really tried to draw a Super Saiyan 2 and 3 version of Goku with the drawing style im used to, here's an experiment 0_0
