Hmmm all those are layers of light and shadow for only hair XDuntitled.JPG
and the rest of the list, which add up to be 88 layers happens to be all shadows for the robe skin and gloves. The background was done on the different psd file.

Gee... calm down on the layers, will ya? I usually have only two to three layers. One for the bas colors (yep, I merge them all) and one for the highlights, shadows, etc... you don't need that many layers... and you could merge some of them.

30 layers here normally (never went over that, I believe)
Keeping layers separate allows much more editability (similarly to how using only 1 or 2 layers doesnt allow a lot of lossless, easily-revertable modifications).
80 layers is imaging industry-standard, and it's sure very nice to see people so meticulous around here

Ehh... you do realize that for professional artists, one layer for testing, one layer for blending, and one layer for the final picture is the usual? Here's my favorite man:
www.speed-painting.com » SPEED-PAINTINGS

^= Gotta love his works!

for "testing" (????). That's a new one to me
Unless multiple alpha channels (and saved selections) are used, 1 layer and similar just bring too much risk to screw somewhere that couldnt be corrected back easily.

To each his technique anyway. Feel free to showcase your own's results, folks Can't get enough of them artworks

Testing means that you want to try to put something somewhere but you are not sure whether or not it should be there. Or when you duplicate the original layer and try a new technique. Either way works.

Sounds like you are talking about some chaep ass webdesigner... if you want to make ART, you'll use more layers, 3 is just ridiculess.

I'll record a 3-layer artwork sometimes.

*SPOILERS AHEAD FOR TALES OF DESTINY II!*
*YOU WERE WARNED!*

Just a super fast sketch. I'm not using IMG tags because of the spoilers, naturally. And I don't remember if spoiler tags exist here or not, so meh.
Here

I tried to come up with something of my own, but 90% of the time, it turned like crap. Not because of my style, but rather because I can't really come up with something that looks good.

Never mind... here is a 4-layer artwork.

It's really four layers... one color dodge layer, one lineart layer, one color layer... and a plain background layer. The background layer could have been associated with the color layer as well... but for some reason, I didn't like it.

Edit: Next time I'll record it!

Nice! The lighting is so subtle that you can barely notice any faults in the picture... and it's not like there's any! Good job!

Not bad!, to do it with four layers of course it is still a rather simple piece, but you must be good not to make many mistakes!

Mmm not to sure about the shadow of the clock tough reaching that high. And i think if the clock has a shadow. The things hanging below the clock should have one to. And the painting on the wall turns black in the shadow a bit to fast i think. Other than that. The lower part of the wall below the window(were your name is) is darkened since the light won't reach it. But how about the top of it? And from what i can see there is a minor flaw in the Line angle of the window. If you look at the angle of the wall and the window. It just doesn't match.

And there is still some other minor things that just makes me think there is something about the pic that isn't completely right.
But still a very nice drawing. And well i hope i didn't sound to harsh. But you won't improve if no one points out the flaws.

Thank you for the critique^^, I appreciate it!
I'll try harder on perspective drawing next time XP.

Actually, I think you should change your line art as well. Using the Pen Tool with strokes and "Pressure Simulation" is just not... going to make it. Try shaping a line using the Pen Tool then fill it in.

P.S.: Oh ya... and sometimes, highlights (the kind that would blind your audience with just a quick glance) may be nice...

Edit: A W.I.P. for you all...

And here's to ChankastRules: 3 layers! XD One is completely useless... though. o.o I should set the transparency to a fixed layer and get rid of it sometime.

Oh, and by the way, he's not Cloud Strife! Cloud's face is not that "bishi." This is a completely original character I'm creating for my own upcoming comic/manga. His name is Bryan Northwind.

O-One day i will learn to use those photoshop things >.<

anyway, random doodling again, can't seem to draw the stuff i want so i just did this one at random. Took me almost an hour i think, damn tentacles hehe...
I don't think its really an original one since some monsters usually have tentacles, i just overdid it a little (there might already be sumthin like this already)
The angle is shifted to the right again just like some o my drawings lol, i don't notice it much when drawing since i always draw in bed >.<

That's awesome! o.o Really... it won't be pleasant to ink that... even with a tablet... and to color it... especially making it look reallistic... *dies* probably a day or two...
