Yeah, it's better to be good in 2D before trying 3D, modeling makes everything faster after the mesh is done, assigned to bones, etc. but before that, you have to do that stupid mesh -_-

Anyways, why are you mentionning 3D?

3D shading and rendering, I only can do outline and simple shadow ><
texture is hard too. My attempts to 3-D color my outlines all failed =_=...
As you can see, I only can do manga style coloring/shadowing
(I always make the hair look flat in 3-D detailed coloring, no matter it's on a 2-d program or 3-d program)

Actually, I suck at doing anime-like coloring and lineart, even though I'd like to be good at it ^^'

Are you gonna add some simple shading to your pic?
(btw, you should modify the arrow she has in the mouth, atm it's so horizontal that it feels like it's floating in front of her :s rotating it with a good angle should be enough)

I fixed the arrow , thanx for pointing it out.
I also changed the hairstyle

It's getting better ^^ just a thing though (yeah, I'm an issue-spotter ), the brown of her clothing doesn't mix well with the background color. I guess it's a temporary one, but I wanted you to know

Some anatomy tweaks, slight color correction, few additions (belt is unfinished, skirt is temporary). Still lots of stuff to do, but I think it looks better than before already ^^'

I want to get illustrator though; it will save me a lot of time.
The CS3 pack, I believe, is $5xx for students and teachers.

It's mostly about vectors, it takes a while to do decent stuff with it, but maybe it's better for you, considering that you draw more than color. I Don't like it personally

I think if you pull the contrast further apart will do; I personally think it is good enough XD.

I tried the CS3 beta when it was released, and I didn't see new features of this kind, but maybe I just didn't pay attention to them. If you want to do 3D, you'd better use a true 3D software. Read few tutorials and you'll be ready to make something decent
