I was too lazy to put the battery in my tablet pen, so I spent some time tweaking layers, and started making a real background. As you can see,
I added a some bloom, prolly overdid it but heh, it's still WIP.
For that reason, don't stare at it for too long if you're in a dark room, or you'll kill your eyes like I did ^^

I changed the lighting a bit on this one (darker shadows, less bloom, some flares)

Tell me which on which lighting looks better :>

Nice water effect and clouds. This is a tough one to pick cause they both look good. I would say that the really bright atmosphere all around the girl would make the shading on her backside lighter apposed to just having one light source from the front of her. If you just had one light source in front of her then the second one would work but like I said, you have light reflecting from the water all around her. So I would say go with the first one. If you could, you should lighten the darker parts of the hair with the dodge tool just a tad bit just to match the overall shading. A reflection of her and the beach ball on the water would make it look slightly more realistic as well.

Ok, I used the same shading technique on all the parts, so I just have to slide some bars to change shadows and light levels. You're right about the light sources, I thought the same, but sometimes when we color drawings, was have to do the lighting in an unrealistic way to make the details show up, that's why I asked

I guess the best think to do bloom slightly less than in the 1st pic, and shade less then in the 2nd.

Thanks for the advice

Nice cloud and water indeed, how did you make them? I like the brighter one better, and the beach ball with a thong is cute. :P

>> Nice cloud and water indeed, how did you make them?
Damn... I typed a mini-tutorial on this window, had to Ctrl+X but hit the wrong key... it's deleted now

Summary:
Big blue layer (bigger than the final image size), large brush (about 1/4 opacity, lots of scattering and jitter).
Paint your clouds.
Copy and mirror the layer.
Use the Ocean Ripple filter.
Place the 2 layers the way you want, try to make them blend nicely at the horizon line.
Select and correct perspective on them separately, that's why you needed over-sized layers; its better to size down and lose details far from the camera, than size up and have a blurry interpolation.

It was the main part, you can still add better effects over this. Like I did with the bloom. (copied the finished stuff as new layer, blurred it at lot, Dodge blending mode, low opacity and tadaaa!)

>> I like the brighter one better
Ok thanks, I'm trying to make it quite bright while keeping enough details to look good. Quite hard to get the good mix :/

>> and the beach ball with a thong is cute. :P
Hehe, I kinda tried to explain what happened to her underwears before she started to remove her shirt ^^'
I was afraid it wouldn't look like a thong though, but if you got it, I guess it's ok

Update:
I tried to make her skin look wet, but it looks more like she's was participating at a gangbang :s If you know how to fix this, let me know ^^'

 yeah, that's what it looks like.
Good luck on getting it right.

Thanks, I'll focus on unfinished stuff before, it's a bit boring to work on a specific detail for too long, esp. when it doesn't look as expected

(though now know I'll be able to make a hentai version of this one easily heh)

It's almost perfect! The skin tone is really nice. I was trying to figure out what that was, I didn't know that it was a thong because I wasn't expecting a thong on a beach ball. Lol. Definately looks like one when I pay attention though. Nice dripping water effect too. I don't think it looks like jizz if that's what your referring too... I like all of those little small details that you put in there. You might want to make the horizon a little more defined but after that, I don't think much else needs to be fixed.

Thanks, though I want the lighting to be less single-source, so I changed some shadow settings again (see below), I also changed hair color cause at times it felt like she had bananas on her head
Tweaked water drops too, I think it look more water-ish as it is now. And added some flares on the bright areas of the sea.

Overall, maybe it's just me, but on this one she seems to fit much better with the background

it's definately the best so far - The lighter skintone fits much better with the scenery.
I do not know if it's intentional, but the drops now look as if there's some sand leftovers also (which would be correct, with a beach and all).
I like the fact that the water in front is a bit yellow-ish, it hints at being close to the beach.
..maybe the beachball should also have a few waterdrops... I can't quite imagine it staying dry like that

Great, I'll keep the tone close to this then.

I didn't see that It's most likely the jpg compression, I use quality settings almost to default when I just need to upload WIP

Glad that you noticed it

True, it was planned already, but I'm not totally done with the ball yet, still some minor stuff to correct

BTW guys , from those wallpaper size, which do you prefer? 1024x768 or 1280x960?

I finally took the time to write the full description for my bowl of fruit scene that I posted a while ago.

As I am learning to use Maya 7, I have been practicing making scenes based on other pictures or paintings. One of my friends is a painter, so i used one of her paintings for the inspiration for this scene.

I made the table first, using 4 polygon cylinders and the basic Maya wood texture. I think I will have to find a way to create a better wood texture as this one doesn't look "real" enough....................<here is a page and half of text>.........I rendered the scene using mental ray, set at high settings, and it took about 1 hr 45 minutes.

I am very happy with how this scene turned out, but I think that there is still room for improvement.

Its nearly 2 pages long so I wont post it here, but you can see it here:

I dropped a comment on your DA post

Today's update ^^

I decided to make some changes to her arms, slight on the right one, complete redraw for the left. IMO it removes lots of the sexiness, but the pose looked weird to me and other ppl as well, I'll prolly re-use the idea on another work though, with easier view angle.

I made some major changes to the face too, I failed to reproduce the way she stared at the camera, but it's more detailed. Still have to add/change some waterdrops cause of the new pose, retouch a bit etc, then I'll finally be done with it (at least I hope so).

BTW, sexiness will be a little back on the topless version ^^

I admire the patience you put in one drawing. I always want to finish something really fast and on the spot, resulting in something which is not as good as it could've been, or it ends up unfinished.
Btw, are there waterdrops hanging under her arm/hand? Water's not that slimy

Well, I actually drop lots of my sketches without finishing them. I'm patient
with coloring cause when I put something in colors, it's usually drawings I think worth spending more time on them. The worst case is having a cool idea and being not skilled enough to draw it correctly

>> Btw, are there waterdrops hanging under her arm/hand? Water's not that slimy

Water, at least on this version ^^', I thought it looked slimy too but no one else said it, so I said myself it was all in my head ...obviously I'll fix this, dunno how, maybe just by removing them

When I'll be done with this one, I'll try to do something simpler. I somehow managed to pile up around 170 layers for this one -_-

BTW, if anyone has an up-to-date version of wintab.dll, you'd be nince to send it to me, I had to tweak my tablet drivers by merging 2 different versions. It causes me problems with some softwares (ie: polling rate is doubled in Painter 9.5)

I think that'd be best, don't "over-detail" it. If there was a fast movement, you could so something with it but she's posing here.

Yeah you're right, I've put too many drops already, some look good, some overload the space. I think I'm just gonna make slide few of them to the left arm ^^.

At first I only wanted to put very few drops and make the wet skin part look shiny, but I didn't find any good way to do this... if you have any advice...

PS: It's ok to post her topless here? :>
