For those who like absolute digital painting, trying out Corel Painter X is a must. Since you are a student (like me), I think you can get the entire thing plus the guide book for $100. Man... I love my college for that!

P.S.: Fadz, I highly recommend Corel Painter X.

I already got it for $27 an year ago xD~
I still prefer Photoshop though, since I can produce patterns and textures on my own.
Even though you cannot beat the brushes in Painter, but the pen-tool in photoshop is the best of all xD
I like, or more used to rather, the interface of Photoshop as well, since I've been using it for a little bit more than an year already xP

Yeah, I like the pattern brush as well. Saves the trouble of having to do something over and over again... (think Spiderman). Yet sometimes it's not so useful...
Plus I think Painter's lack of right-click size change is a big ouch for me. I wish they'd put that in...

Yeah, and the layers properties kind of mess me up sometimes :/
Like different layer types and such.
And Painter is definitely not designed for vector art.

However, you also can tweak the brushes in Photoshop to generate similar effect in Painter, but it will lag a lot lol... even my comp has like 5 sec freeze each stroke when I tune the setting up :/. [the image is 10240 x 6400 though]

Layer types can save you some troubles if you play with them nicely. Experiment. Some types are more like masks than layers.

As for brush simulation... Painter does that way faster. If you want vector art, you should go for Illustrator or Flash. In this perspective, I reckon Photoshop is like half and half with each of this and each of that. Let me guess... pen tool is useful for your linearts?

I use illustrator with vector, I haven't really tried flash yet.
Maybe I'll get more into it as I begin to do more web designing.

Flash is easy to draw. And ActionScript is kind of easy to catch on. Once you get the point of it, you can start creating cool stuffs.

I thought of web design at first... but then I erased the idea off the board because t was pointless. There are too many people using Flash to create silly contents (heh... tells you how easy it is to learn Flash), and there are far too many websites with similar or even better ideas. Going into web design would just be reinventing the wheel over and over and over again, so I quit it.

What? It's my main computer for god's sake. I'm even drawing on it. Lags sometimes but totally worth it.

Try to scale a photo up to 10000 * 10000 and zoom radial blur!
