well, generally the PSU is on top for better case cooling; mostly because hot air rises, and your PSU being on the bottom would make the heat it generates go into your case.

if you have it on top, the PSU's fan takes the hot air from your case outside.

Well they chose it for the newer BTX formfactor standard that hasn't gained a great deal of momentum.

I suppose for those other than overclockers, hospitable cooler temps for the psu are more desireable. Since the cpu is directly below the psu and hot air rises and alot is sucked through the internal components of the psu even with the rear case fan sucking a great deal of the hot air out.

::edit::Here's the reason.

Power Supply at the Bottom? why?

Well on my case, the PSU chamber is blocked of from th rest of the case....plus a fan pushes the heat out the back of the chamber.

Then like 8 hrs of OS and software installation =_=
I'm glad that my first PC built was successful with zero problem XD
[well, I forgot to plug in the power core for my sound card...]
Anyhoo, gonna learn more about OC before I do anything to my CPU @@"

So I finally took some pics!!!
but I think Vista 64 has some driver issue with my cellphone @@"
So I am using my old system atm XD
I've only run into driver issue with my cellphone and my webcam though, everything else work perfectly fine, and the system booted up in the first try without a prob!!

CPU: QX9650 (ready to OC XD)
RAM: G.Skill 2GB DDR2 1066 RAM x 4
HDD: Western Digital Raptor X x2 RAID 0
OS: Vista x64 Ultimate
GPU: Quadro FX4600 (It's huge...and takes 2 PCIE slots...)
Sound card: X-Fi Elite Pro
Monitor: SAMSUNG 2253BW
Case: Cosmos S
MOBO: ASUS RAMPAGE FORMULA
PSU: ThermalTake ToughPower 850W

6x 120mm fans, 1x 220 fan, and Nirvana CPU fan installed
Draws air from bottom, side, and front, then exhausts from the back and top. CPU fan blows upwards.

The fan cables are kinda messy@@", gonna organize them more later XD

Damn Fadingz I'm so jealous you got a Cosmos S

How loud are your tower fans? My Cosmo 1000 are pretty much silent but they don't push much air either.

I replaced the back fan withThermal take Smart Fan II
and I also added 4 additional ones
The front LED included fan is making some noise :x [need to be right next to the fan to hear it though XD; like 10 cm away lol]
probably 'loud' compare to the other 5 Thermaltake fans

The hude side fan and the 5 fans I put in are silent, but my CPU fan is on high and is pretty loud XD
I might add in a speed control for the CPU fan; how I wish that it has temperature detection too @@"

Anyhoo, I rewired everything to the back and clear the air passage up XD

I tried with all fans on high, but my comp sounds like a jet engine... my mom was like WOOOHOOO when she was in my room, and my sis said that it would take off any moment!
The 3 fans on the top can lift up and blow off a letter size sheet of paper to a few meters away.
I can feel the wind 2m away @@"
I put on the temperature sensor for now, the speed controler is annoying since I need a PCI slot for each.

Solution:

Take yours truly as a model and you'll be raking it in. It's just a fact of life.

have you tried any games with that card?

Id be interested in how it would compare to an 8600GT, im assuming it would perform around or below that midrange cards level.

RAM: 8G (DDR2 1066)
GPU: NVidia Quadro FX4600
OS: Vista x64

Speed is: (fps)
between 60 and 90 (mean of 75) in battle and cut-scenes
low @ 40 when some graphic bugs are on the screen
high around 120 when there isn't anything on the screen
CG is between 70 and 90 (mean of 80)
menu is 215+
Loading black screen is between 160 and 180

Issues:
Screen freezes pretty often (known issue)
some graphic bugs like transparent wall (I kinda like it since I can see the items behind the wall XD)
screen bugs up like the one shown is screenshot @4 sometimes when I open up the party menu sometimes, but disappears after loading again (through both in-game and save-stat)
Workstation GPU is still not meant for gaming @@", it's my bottleneck when I turn AA on...
Plugin setting is shown in screenshot.

EDIT: Quality is a bit poor to fit within the ngemu 200KB filesize.
