Heh. I disappeared for a while myself. BTW, I was running a 3.2 Northwood @ 3.7, not 3.

In January I got this CPU for $120 on sale, quite a good deal at the time, so I decided to take the plunge and build a whole new system based on PCI-e. I'd been missing AMD, and the P4 just wasn't giving me exactly what I wanted.. aside from HT, which I sorely miss. Need to get an X2.

But it was definitely worth it. The A64 (especially at 2.7GHz ) is miles ahead of the P4 in really every regard. Don't regret it a bit.

Oh wow, that's exatly the same case I have, with the blue neon light strips in the front. Oddly enough, I have the same Plextor DVD burner as well (but got it after these shots were taken). I bought mine at a CompUSA in Anchorage, Alaska about 3 years ago when I built this rig.

Well, I lived in Anchorage for 4 years, so it wasn't very random for me, more like just a matter of time.

Very nice refraction, looks like we got both same taste regarding to the model of the comp case.

Well thought I'd share mine tho I'd have to take some new pics as I'm moving fans in the case a bit all the time and also I've recently replaced the stock dfi chipset cooler to an Evercool VC-RE that comes with a blue and red led. Well here's some old pics of the comp case anyways. Definitely need to upgrade gfx card but I might wait for DX10 cards or wait until I've finished the military service this winter as I wouldn't get much time to sit at the comp anyways.

The last 2 shots I included to show what we crazy overclockers can do to our procs just to gain few lower degrees onto the CPUs. No pain no gain.

Specs:
Opteron 165 @ 2.8GHz 1.45v (1000MHz o/c)
DFI Lanparty nForce4 SLI-DR
OCZ Gold VX PC4000 2x512MB @ 255MHz 2-2-2-5 3.3v
OCZ PowerStream 520W
Nvidia 6800GT + Zalman VF700-CU 350/1000MHz @ 440/1155MHz
Sony G400 Trinitron highend 19" CRT 1280x960 @ 100Hz (soon)
Creative SoundBlaster Audigy
Logitech MX-510 optical "gaming" mouse & Steelpad QcK pad
Logitech X-530 5.1 surround system

Yea, cut my fingers several times when I was removing the IHS (the heatspreader on top of the core) on the CPU using very small razor blades as seen in the pic and no gloves on my hands. The worst bloody paper towels went down in the toilet tho. I think I ended up with small scars on 5-6 fingers LOL. I was too focused on not ruining the chip as after all it costed 225€ (~$275) so I didn't mind my fingers so much.

There wasn't much clearance between those small transistors and the razor blade I can tell.

Haha, I see you used shaver blades as well . When I popped off my IHS, I used a wad of toilet paper to protect my fingers. It worked rather well. What stepping is your chip?

Actually I ordered mine from UK. The DFI fan was dying. Also ordered a 60mm fan to cool down my PWMIC temp on the mobo.

http://www.shinyhardware.co.uk/produ...t.asp/pid=5511

Cheap site, was cheaper than buying fans in my own country even.

n_w95482: stepping is *checks the IHS * CCBWE 0550 UPMW (the best CCBWE stepping). I know it could do more than 2.8GHz, I'd say 2.9 - 2.95GHz, previous owner ran it 2.85GHz @ 1.41v but my mobo has reached HTT limit at ~311.

Added more pics, incl my USB hdd cooling hehe.

aww damnit, if i knew that i coulda got it quicker! i looked high and low and couldnt find it, only the Vantec replacement HSF

but still, plot was a star and got me it as a present/favour so i got it cheaper still (Cheers plot!)

I need to try an OC mine more really, but my temps are knocking the 60 mark, i want to put my 120mm fan back in which was cooling my ram, seemed to help the Proc a bit too (where the fan literally sits on my HSF :P) but now i have no fan controller itll be very noisey
