Confusing at first but I think I'm getting the hang of it

This past weekend a couple of friends and I had a (crowded) Mini-LAN party in my tiny room (I'm not in the pic, I took it). After some gaming, we drove downtown for the hell of it and went into a Big Lots that I didn't know existed, and found the greatest deal ever: Bet on Soldier for $4.99. I guess that's what happens when you use Starforce . I won't be installing it unless there's a crack somewhere, but for $5, you can't beat that.

Pretty awesome, gonna have these more often.

I used to host PSX link up games all the freaking time. Capture the flag was always a fun mode in Red Alert and Retaliation. I think I was the only one in the Borders with a Link-Up cable.

That and going around to my friend's house for 4-player Goldeneye, F-Zero X, Mario Kart and WWF No Mercy on his 32" screen. ^_^

Going back even further: me and some friends staying up to 4am playing Fifa International Soccer on the Mega Drive.

Sweet memories.

4, including me. Another one of my guests wasn't in the photo.. any more would have been a disaster; my house is much too small. 4 computers in my room was a bad idea as it was anyway.. it was unbearably hot.

Yeah, I used to have console gaming parties when I was young too.. nowadays it's usually PC stuff, but we still occasionally play older games (via emulators of course ).

well, 4 people is plenty for some games (like on console....4 player madness) but if you want to LAN computer games (which are like 8-10 minimum) its a little low

Meh. A picture of my room at my parent's house as it stands. BTW: there's a lot of s**t going on there. Finding it all is like reading a Where's Wally book.

If you're talking about the top left, then that's my sword. Bottom right is my chair that for some reason in this picture looks very hairy. @_@

well, here in the states they lowered the price of a new PStwo to 129, and that means a used or refurb one is $109. so when i get really desperate, ill just get that.

Being European and all, I reside in a PAL territory thus used to have PAL consoles. I got my PAL GC in 2003 and then I went NTSC last November. I was going to sell my PAL GC, but there's no point.

Plus it makes a good source of parts (my NTSC GC used to be purple, have a dodgy fan, and it looked like it had been in the wars so I switched the cases, fans, heatsinks and frontplates around.)

Ah, I see. Parts are always a good thing with game systems. After all, they really are no more reliable than any other piece of equipment. I mean, just look at the PS2's laser.

correct. so let's hope that this PAL/NTSC/SECAM crap dies out for good.

but then that does mean we all have to switch to HDTVs.....

Well there is always going to be a slight difference in different region's consoles. Not PAL/SECAM/NTSC, but look at power plugs etc. As consoles move to external power supplies it's not a problem anymore, but before it required a stepdown converter otherwise BOOM.

And yeah: 720p, 1080i and 1080p are the new standards. About time too. I fear that most of the "initial run" of PS3 games (as in: until late 2007) will still have a PAL/NTSC divide though. And I'm guessing the best the Nintendo Wii will do is the same EDTV that's used on the Gamecube.
