Cause the component is fried?... As in shorted. Basically, dead part. So you have no choice but to buy a new part

That happens when you remove the dust Dust is like cheap insulation. Get enough of it, and it'll smother airflow and trap heat.

Im investing in a air compressor. I calculated that I spend around ~150 a year on cans of air...so ill buy a Craftsman 3 Gallon Air Compressor. It should save me a bundle down the road

Heh... I have an air compressor myself, but my parents won't let me drag it into the house

God, that thing is awesome. I tried it once. Pointed the nozzle at the garbage bin, which was full and a few feet away. Knocked it right over

This is why I recommend to all my friends to dust out their computers at least once a month. Especially the ones who keep the towers on their carpet flooring.

I'm pretty serious about it too. Whenever I go over to a friends house to help them with a computer problem, I open it up. If there's visible dust, or even worse, clumps of dust, I close it back up, grab a stick or something hard within reach and smack 'em. Then I proceed to clean out their system I remember one complaining to me how loud his computer was...turned out his CPU fan was on full throttle cause an inch of dust was settled between the heatsink fans. And even more dust settled between the block and CPU socket

Eh it doesn't have to be once a month unless the case is open, once every 6 months is fine (unless your name is GF in that case its once every hour).

PS: i clean mine either once a week or at max once every two weeks.

Are those compact $50 air compressors sufficient for cleaning a PC?

I think it's recommended to keep it at about 30-35 PSI or lower (some say 40PSI, but I like an extra safety buffer). Any more and you increasingly run the risk of damage to the electronics. It's possible, sometimes practical, but canned air works fine too.

For most "normal" people with "standard" computers, I'd say cleaning it once a year is sufficient, once every six months recommended, but not necessary (since cleaning the PC for the sake of keeping it looking clean is overkill for such people/computers).
