Scaling and interpolation are not even close to true resolution flexibility. That's akin to saying ePSXe's filters can make the game true HD. It's halfway there at best, and letterboxing, well, that's not even the same thing, since the same amount of area isn't used. When it can use the same amount of area for different resolutions without interpolating or scaling, then we'll talk and call it actual resolution flexibility. Even CRTs don't have infinite resolution flexibility.

As for the field of view, it just so happens that LCDs are just about all that's left on the PC monitor market, so they're the ones being converted to the new widescreen format. That does not mean, however, that it is something akin to the LCD technology, so it's pointless for you to list it as a pro of the technology itself. There does exist a widescreen CRT, the Sony GDM-FW900 (what I'd do to get a new one), for your information.

What did I tell you? Every time it comes up for someone to ask someone else why they have a CRT, a debate follows (true enough that I took part in it though). It's a subjective matter, so just let the damn thing rest. If you're interested in arguing about it, start a thread dedicated to it.

I won't, since I'm not that interested. I didn't know about that widescreen CRT, though. I never intended to pass off widescreen as part of the LCD technology.

And no one of us said that letterboxing was as good as true support for the resolution. But one should not claim that you simply can't run a fullscreen application that uses a 4:3 resolution without it stretching to all hell.

Did I claim that? No (although, true enough, to me, since an LCD more often then not looks so ugly outside it's native resolution that that's all I'd really consider truly usable for it, that's besides the point being made that that isn't resolution flexibility, because it's not, so despite my opinion on the matter, I never made that claim that they can't do what you're describing).

You didn't claim it per se, but your posts seemed to indicate that that was what you thought. Whatever. Let's just drop the subject.

What game is that on the screen, Dukenukem?

Yeah Viper ram is really cheap this days.
DDR2 800 sticks are better.

Also remember to go 64bit to use that.

That isn't gonna be the case for long with DDR2, the price of a 2GB Kingston 800MHz module just jumped from $24 to $28. A RAM upgrade (to at least 3GB) is definitely the next thing on my upgrade list before prices get too high (*cough* DDR 1GB = $54 )

If i go Windows 7, i would consider getting 4GB ram , as for now im still using the good ol WinXP SP3 32bit. 2GB seems fine for me now, i don't have lot's of apps in the background, so the system is only using about 300-400MB of ram, The only large memory hoggers i had so far were Crysis and GTA4 (consumes around 1.4GB+ i think) Fallout 3 only uses around 900-1GB, even with lots of mods.
And yeah, i did placed some 800Mhz DDR2 modules before, problem is it has issues with instabilities with it and wouldn't boot on my old board. Researched online and and found out that some folks are experiencing the same and only some select DDR2 800 works, so i defaulted to DDR2 667 (perhaps some bios flashing and modifying would do make it work...)
