Hard disk label vs. actual capacity difference seems excessive...

one of the oldest tricks in the book

I finally got around to posting my Core i7 pictures on my site .

I've also gotten around to overclocking it up to 3.7 GHz. I might try for 3.8 or even 4 in a few months, but I probably need to lap my CPU and heatsink first. It runs damn hot at 3.7 .

I could not tell what the mouse in use was, I just saw the crappy thing lying on the floor, that's why there was a question mark after the crappy mouse. So no, the MX518 is by no means a crappy mouse.

It's still dirty. If that we mine I would disassemble it completely. Set up in front of a good movie with some microfibre cloths, some isopropyl alcohol, a couple cans of air, some replacement fans, and I'd get to work.

I'm allergic to dust. And there is construction going on near the building so dust comes in a lot, on top of that my computer stays ON 24x7. Its a new computer so dust wont cause much of a problem. There was nearly a fist full of dust/mud inside the case I cleaned it after nearly after 4 months.

you should see the amount of dust on the graphics card and my old HDD. It was like a layer of dust.

The keyboard and mouse on top (Logitech Access keyboard and MX518 mouse) are for my main desktop. The MS Internet keyboard and Intellimouse Explorer on the floor are hooked up to my Tualatin box on the left.

I like the feel of the cheapo Logitech keyboard and I've thought about getting a G5 mouse but the MX518 is still working fine so I haven't been able to justify it yet.

In case anyone was wondering, Win7 runs pretty good on a Celeron 1.2 .

The case is lifted up, so it draws in air from the bottom.
I set up the case so that it draws air from the side and lower front while it exhausts from the top and back.

*hands over a vacuum* O..O

Seriously, get some cans of compressed air and a N95 mask, go to your yard and blow the heck out of it...
Seems like you need to insert filters into your fans.
I only need to clean the filters and my fan blades.
Well, all the dusts come out when I turn all the fans to high anyways xD~

Same for me, minus the top exhaust. Instead I have a back side exhaust.

On a side topic, how is the performance of the Tualatin? Those things used to cost quite a bit for old technology a few years back, but I see they're very cheap (we're talking ~$10-$15 here) for even the 1.4GHz Pentium IIIs on eBay. I've heard they've given the earlier Pentium 4s and even some of the the earlier Athlons a run for their money (which is why they were unfortunately discontinued, for being too good next to the new Pentium 4s).

I have an older socket 370 system I've always wanted to try one in. The thing is, it's a Dell (Dimension 4100 specifically), so it'd need a BIOS flash to the Intel equivalent of the board it uses, and it's also need an adapter, since the board doesn't natively take Tualatins, and I have no knowledge of what adapters do and don't work (besides the Powerleap, which is discontinued and rare on eBay), let alone where to find them or at what prices, so I want sure if the performance was worth the trouble. Since the CPUs themselves are dirt cheap now, if I was able to easily and cheaply find an adapter online (no use spending $50 for an adapter for an older PC and a $10 CPU, you know?), I've been considering it again before the CPUs become extinct.

Also, I should probably get pictures of my setup one day.

Everything I've tried on it aside from WoW ran great, but that game's a CPU whore anyways so I'm not too surprised. Every version of Windows and Linux I've tried on it ran pretty quick. I'm not sure whether I want to/feel like pinmodding the Celeron for higher voltages (cooliscool had it before me and I think he got 1.6+ GHz doing that), or just buying a 1.4 GHz P3-S and calling it a day.

The main thing I've noticed with prolonging old computers is to stuff them with memory and a modern, fast hard drive. The main drive in it is a 200 GB Maxtor I bought about three years ago, and Win7 is installed on an 80 GB WD drive (the one with 8 MB cache). A newer drive compared to an older, low-density or 5400 RPM drive is a night and day difference, even on a slower Coppermine P3.

Older computers are a big hobby of mine so I don't mind dumping some money on them, just to see what happens or if I can make them useful. The Tualatin runs Folding@home 24/7, as does my Athlon XP. I still have my old Packard Bell with a Pentium 233 and Voodoo 1, and I'm still deciding what to throw in it to improve it. I've been wanting to buy a dual G4 Mac tower but I keep forgetting to look around eBay .

If you can find one for cheap, an Asus TUV4X motherboard would work great with any Tualatin. I'm using one and have had zero issues with it (same with the CUV4X).

Behold my dusty computer, front panel removed.
The small circuit is a little light blinking circuit that I made just for fun.
