The term used in NA is just PC or computer

I've never heard anyone say system unit

It was just something I was taught in grade 6. Told me that the technical name for it is system unit, or maybe it's outdated or something.

Yup but with this looming economic crisis I think I might hold off on buying the monitors.

Following pics are my current set up on my soon to be primary computer desk. As you can see, it's quite large Sitting on top is my brand spanking new Cooler Master HAF 932. I've moved my PSU, hard drives and DVD-burner into it so far.

The next ones are of my 9800GX2 without it's shell Don't worry, as you can see, I am wearing my wrist strap
Ahh nice desk skore. And that videocard is a beast. So you got rid of your Cosmo 1000? Lemme guess cuz of the hdd heat issue?

Yeah, my little HD temp monitoring app was going bonkers cause of the high temps. Plus, after prying off the side panels...they don't go back on. The latches look like they were warped a bit...somehow. I have no clue how, I just took off the panels like usual. My dog must've jumped on top of the panels when I wasn't in the room

Thanks. I'm loving it so far, so much room to work with. All the holes in the inside really help out with the wire management.

Still debating on whether I should keep the side panel and the fan or put in some sound foam (I ripped out the foam from my Cosmos ).

I will. I don't really see much point in having the side panel fan since I'm watercooling. I do have one intake fan and 3 exhaust fans (the exhaust ones are on the radiator). I'll probably decide after testing how loud it'll be with the side panel with fan or completely closed up with the foam.

You should grab a few Nexus Beamair. They're worth the few dollars I hear. Something so simple has won a buncha awards.

Not much, the HDTV is really old, cost me like $1500 3 years ago, but now its probably not even worth $400, I've seen better ones the same size for $499. I got a 60" HDTV for my living room so I decided to put the old one to use as a monitor, it has VGA ports in the back so it connect just like any regular monitor.

Desk was like $150

Well here is my final build I am going to order tomorrow. I was going to get 12 gigs of ram, but I decided to cut my costs and add another 6 later.

Any advice ?

be prepared for high temps dude. i was looking into i7 Extreme for an extreme build but alot of early buyers are complaining about heat.......no surprise, as that enormous die tells the story.

What case do you have? And no Blu ray? Its pretty cheap now

I have a big black thermaltake armor case. Its big and heavy and gets the job done, but not lan portable :/

My PS3 on my tv is much better than on my pc monitor, especially combined with the ass comfort of a couch

The TRUE should handle the i7 sufficiently, but it wasn't designed for it I'm sure a top aftermarket HSF for the i7 will be released soon enough. But most i7 users I know have already slapped or are planning to go watercooling cause of all the heat. It's so bad that most watercoolers have a separate loop just for the CPU now, whereas having both CPU and GPU with the C2D was perfectly fine.

Still, nice upgrade I want a VelociRaptor drive too

I am moving my raid 5 storage to a separate nas box after the upgrade, raid 0 on those raptors should be insanely fast for games/apps/windows.

Yeah, I was telling him about it on MSN. Right now I've been running the latest Prime95 for about 6 minutes and my Core Temp readings are 72/67/68/70 C, with a TRUE heatsink and Noctua 120mm fan at stock speeds. I'm going to be tossing on a second fan tomorrow and reseating the heatsink (possibly doing the washer trick).

Edit: Forgot to add that I'm using a Cooler Master Stacker 810 case .

Yeah. Water cooling should really start to be on your mind when you consider these things. I cant wait until swiftech pumps out an i7 specific block
