Wish I could do that...but it's not for people who keep pets otherwise they would be going through one a day and have an even greater PITA with continously having to clean the blood and guts from the last one off the fans etc.

I think I have finally found someone more overclock crazy than RAP though XD

I started running it without comp case when I switched from my AMD setup (to my E6750 CPU which is now sold) where I had ridiculous amount fans inside the case etc and I thought without the comp case it's easier to access the h/w and install new stuff and it requires less fans (altho I've added a few silent ones all below 21db as u can see just to be on the safe side or to reach maximum oc stability, there's also a 92mm behind the CPU cooler which isn't visible in those pics).

The stock cooler is so crap on the 8800GT that's why I added the 120mm fan there to keep the ambient temps down around the card and it clearly helps quite a few degrees and I don't think the 8800GT is worthy a 3rd party cooler which would cost like 30% of what the card is worth. I'd like to mod the stock cooler tho but I was unable to find a screwdriver small enough to losen those TIIIINY screws holding the plastic cover in place. Would have wanted to attach a 92mm fan direct to the heatsink that sits on top of the GPU.

Running as an open setup has it's advantages and disadvantages, for most people a comp case is clearly recommended but for me it's not really needed. I can imagine in families with little kids for example is not a good idea, neither with some playful pets or if you're the party-person inviting home your friends for a party (ooh noooez, beer on my comp...) etc would be a disaster with a comp setup like that but I don't belong to those categories either so.
additional quote seeing as post popped up inbetween.

I'm really really OC addicted that's for sure. Always when I get some new hardware to play with I always first start finding the max "IMO somewhat 24/7 safe" OC and then I run the hardware at those speeds until I upgrade or it breaks. I've got a hardtime backing off on my OC's once I've reached a goal I'm satisfied with, I always do whatever I can to keep it at those speeds even after extended periods. I may up the voltage slightly or add extra cooling or do some modifications etc depending on what's necessary. I rather would run it at the "edge" of what's safe and risk to damage it to buy something new sooner instead if it's really a poor overclocking sample (one good example was when I got a poor OCing A64 SD3700+ 2.2GHz that BARELY oc'd to 2.7GHz at 1.63~1.65v on air while stock voltage was 1.35v I think and yes it survived just fine xD The "good" SD3700+ did around 2.85~2.9GHz at 1.5~1.55v as a comparision at the time I bought it, later on with better steppings even 3GHz+ clocks became a reality so I was so frustrated at my sample).

Another example is my Opteron 165 1.8GHz I really wanted to reach 2.8GHz minimum and to get it stable at that clock I had to remove the IHS. That was kinda funny experience.... just scroll down for pics in this thread IHS on or off - that's the question... - XtremeSystems Forums

I visit XtremeSystems forums daily to read hardware news and check ppl's xtreme overclocking results etc.

Yep it's official. You're totally bonkers

Wish I had the cash, experience and space to play with PC components like that...although I doubt I would do that to chip even if I was a multimillionaire.

Yeah... to be honest, I'm quite noob-ish compared to him. He's had way more experience, that's for sure.

P.S.: Whoops... for disappointing those who want to see my setup, I apologize. I promise, it's not like I put 8 120mm fans into an mATX case or anything like that. lol

Pc remains the same as last year (specs in sig) and its all connected up (and it was a nightmare) to this lot:

the internals of my lc17 remain unchanged bar one hard drive being removed. the mice are an mx518 which i use on the laptop when its at the desk, and a G9 which is used for the pc when im gaming

This rig is 100% buffbiff21. I used to hang out at XS and [H] so maybe you've seen it there? Since that pic, I'd removed the white lining around the aluminum and modded the chassis to accommodate a 120mm fan. The 80mm just wasn't doin' it for me: noisy and ineffective. Specs are

E6600 @ 3.6 \\\ 8800GTS 640 @ 660/2000 \\\ DFI Infinity P965-S Dark \\\ 2 GB G Skill PC6400-HZ \\\ Lian Li PC-65B \\\ Corsair HX520 \\\ LG 42" 1080P LCD \\\ Auzentech X-Meridian

Air Cooled Gallery - Page 57 - XtremeSystems Forums

Btw, the reason the Raptor-X is showing down in the HD shelf is because I cut away part of the rack with a Dremel. Inspiration for this came from jAkUp at nVNews (the 7th pic over in his profile here). I've also popped all LEDs because they scream "gamer." I also ran this insane beast for a while. I now refer to is as my FAFSA rig. I pieced it out a little over a year ago because I don't play PC games that much.

forgive the crummy pics, my good camera broke so i had to dig up my old camera. 2MP and 16mb ftl!

anyway... heres my newest pc that i built a little bit ago. my first socket 775 that i put together. sorta like how the cpu pins are on the mobo. bit easier for me to socket the cpu. that always freaks me out for some reason.

Case: NZXT Apollo case (at first it sucked, but with some better fans, now its not to shabby for the price ~$40 us. i really like the burnt orange.)
PS: Thermaltake Tough Power 750w
Mobo: Asus P5N-D (again, sucked at first, now with the latest bios and nforce drivers, all the problems have been fixed. phew!)
CPU: Q6600 w/ stock cooler & artic silver ceramique (the AS gave me a nice ~4 degree drop. was running stock speeds for the summer, now that its cooled down, i might up to to around ~2.8/3.0 ghz)
RAM: 2gb kingston ddr2 800mhz dual channel ram (model # escapes me at the moment, just normal kingston ram, not the value crap or the hyperx)
GFX: Evga Geforce 9600gt 512mb (going to add another soon, and oc to around ~15/20% for the winter)
SOUNDCARD: Realtek ALC883 7 channel HD audio (for an integrated sound card, its not too shabby! has digital coax and optical out, and decent sound. someday i would like to get a "real" sound card, but don't wanna break the bank and stear clear of creative cards)
NETWORK: Nvidia Nforce 10/100/1000 ethernet
HDD: Western Digital Caviar 500gb w/ 16mb buffer, sata (got one of the newer ones without the high access times. not too shabby for the price, ~$80 us. how can i get 500gb for 80 but a 20gb xbox hdd is $100?!)
CD/DVD: Asus DRW-1814BLT DVD-/+RW (MultiWriter) with lightscribe, sata (stay away from this drive if you want to use lightscribe, every forums has horror stories of burning ~5 labels and it'll kill the drive. i haven't used LS yet because of that. as a standard dvd/cd burner, its ok)
KB & MOUSE: Logitech MX3200 Wireless Laser (i was worried about gaming lag and interference when i got it, but its been working great for 4 months and no problems. 'cept when the batteries start to go around the 2 1/2 month mark)
MONITOR 1: 19in Dell M781s CRT (just some crummy old crt i still use)
MONITOR 2: 32in Toshiba REGZA (main monitor for gaming. my friend is a huge a/v guy, and turned me onto the toshiba Regza line.)
AUDIO: Onkyo HT-S4100 Home Theater (Again, recommended by my friend. Never even heard of Onkyo before, but they seem to make quality goods, and its an amazing setup for sub $400.)

EXTRAS:
Logitech Cordless Rumblepad 2
Logitech Premium Stereo Headset (word of advice, your not getting anything premium for $20. decent, but will hurt your ears after 20 min)
