Supreme Commander coming to xbox360...

So i wonder where this will end up. SupCom requires a top of the line pc to fully realize the best aspect of its gameplay (massive 8 player battles on 20+km maps). Just look at some of the screens here to see what they had to do to the game in terms of graphics to get it to play well. And these are just screens, actual gameplay may still be much slower.

Though i know that Command & Conquer 3 was ported to 360 pretty successfully, ie it was playable without a mouse and keyboard. But idk about the chances of success with supcom. Perhaps this means they will try porting Crysis in the future?

They're porting Crysis to PS3.
And RTS games on consoles is even more epic fail than FPS games on consoles.

Crysis on PS3, will have to be a corridor/valley shooter if it hopes to have somewhat similar graphics levels at ~720p given its 512mb ram or extremely good streaming ability off the hdd. Or it won't look any better that Uncharted. Oh wait that reminds me, Uncharted IS pretty much a corridor, narrow path adventure game.

wow, crysis on ps3...(lqtm)

why do they do this?
just like porting a game to a movie, or vice versa, it is impossible for the end result to be as good as the original.

was quake 4 any good on the 360? no
oblivion? kinda, sorta
fear? blew on the ps3, ok for 360 so far as i know
and now Crysis?

though you are right, Supcom should be a much bigger failure than crysis in terms of a port. i have played matches of supcom where my memory usage came close to 2gb, so they will have to cut the unit cap to 500 MAX probably, maybe even less. and those massive 81km naval maps? forget those, 20km will probably be the biggest.

though that is all good and fine (nobody wants to play on the biggest map using the most units every time they play right?), i still expect some lag after an hour in a match.

by that time there are so many units and $@%# going on that my fps drops below 30 for sure. i'd like to know how they will keep the fps afloat well into a skirmish match.

Huhu, rumors ftw.

The CryEngine is coming to consoles, the game is still only rumors. Porting the engine doesn't mean the game will be ported, since there is a difference between using the same engine to make a game (which can be of lower quality, much lower) and porting the game, which will have to use the same stuff : vast open area, mainly.

Taken for granted that the game will be ported is foolish, wait for a confirmation, a lot of things could complicate the game release. Limitation of hardware (and vram) would make the consoles (even the PS3, tho it will have a easier time to do the physics) crawl, or use heavy clipping.

----

And for RTS, they can simply use mouse and keyboards, which can usually be used on a console. The game would mainly attract anyone who couldnt play it on their PC, which would be a small audience.

Checking out the screens for supcom, they've turned off shadows, lower resolution, reduced the number of polygons, simpler textures, turned off backgrounds and used the low effects version. It looks like the PC version on low graphics mode.

OMG Gameplay over graphics, gameplay over graphics!!!11

Now that sucks, cause the gameplay will probably be horrible as well due to the controls, enjoy the music guys
