Does the Ps2 memory card works in a Ps3?

I'm having a problem. I'm currently playing God of War 2, but it keeps on freezing on the video of the gigantic horses, when you are heading to the Sisters of Fate island. Is not the disc. I'm pretty sure is my ps2 since is REALLY OLD. So i was thinking on visiting my friend who haves a ps3 to pass that video and keep playing. But i don't know if the Ps2 mem works in a ps3.

In order to use a PS2 Memory Card on the PS3 you will have to buy an adapter.

Edit: Seems like initially there was no option to transfer saves back to PS2 card but it was added later trough the PS3 firmware update.
