But Nintendo really seems to be getting lovey-dovey with japanese 3rd party developers as far as the Wii goes.
Yep

Keisuke Kikuchi - Producer.
Shibata Makoto and Suda51 - Directors.

The game will be released this Summer*.

EDIT2:
Fatal Frame 4 (Wii Exclusive):

"Titled in Japan "Rei: Tsukihami no Kamen," the new Fatal Frame game is a major collaborative effort for Tecmo. Nintendo will publish the game and is also lending its support on the development end."

Wii is comming with a lot of horror games.
Wow, great gfx! Looks lot better than most of the 3rd party games!

Well, I think the article said it was screenshots from the CG, naw?

I wouldn't have a hard time believing it (CG) since it lacks aliasing.

I don't think is Fatal Frame 4. Is more like a spin off. Is called "Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse". There is no 4. Like Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly and Fatal Frame III: The Torment. I think FF4 is coming to 360 and ps3 =|

Anyway, I'm excited! this is one of my main reasons to get a Wii =D

As for the "huge RPG", im pretty sure is the Kid Icarus game from Factor 5.

No, it's not a spin off, it IS the fourth chapter of the series.

There will not be a Fatal Frame 4 to 360 and/or PS3. Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is Fatal Frame 4.

Well, the guys from Tecmo used to say that they had planned a new Fatal Frame for the PS3 (as far as I remember, prolly the 360 too) with twice the numbers of characters.

But that could have been cancelled ever since then tho.

To the contrary, 1UP learned at Tokyo Game Show that Tecmo's enlisted the help of Grasshopper Manufacture to produce the next Fatal Frame game. And here's the kicker: it's for Wii.

Grasshopper will start on Fatal Frame when work on No More Heroes, recently announced for a US release via Ubisoft, has finished. Given that No More Heroes was developed on Wii, Grasshopper seems content on Nintendo's console.

Taking photographs of ghouls has been a part of Fatal Frame since day one, so motion controls certainly make sense for the series, but the last we heard about the next Fatal Frame seemed to have Microsoft and Sony's consoles in mind. "I already have some ideas that I'd like to do if I had more development time and a more powerful system," said Fatal Frame 3 Producer Keisuke Kikuchi all the way back in July 2005.

Then again, in 2005, no one knew Wii was going to blow up, either.

Well, it's still possible for them to make a game on other consoles, but right now it seems they are focusing on this one.

Since they are using Grasshopper/Suda it does leave them open to work on a second game at the same time too.

But either way, I'm very interested in further informations on this game, it should be pretty fun.

More news (not about Fatal Frame):

First, the Balance Wii Board, the peripheral that's included with Wii Fit. The magazine noted that Wii Fit has been quite the success story for Nintendo so far. To this, Miyamoto responded that if the game sees success overseas as well, Nintendo may end up releasing separate titles that make use of the peripheral.

The first title to use the Balance Board as an option actually hits Japan tomorrow in the form of Bandai Namco's Family Ski. Could a certain similarly themed Nintendo franchise be next?

The magazine also asked Miyamoto the inevitable question about sequels, and he gave the expected answer. In case you have to hear to to believe it, Miyamoto is indeed interested in making a Super Mario Galaxy sequel. He's also thinking about the next Zelda title.

Miyamoto also gave some vague hints as to Nintendo's plans for the DS this year. Nintendo plans to make it so that you'll be able to use your DS to do a number of interesting things in public spaces. He wouldn't get into specifics. Earlier in the interview, he shared a vision of Nintendo supporting DS owners by setting up servers to create a play environment that's shared between the home and outdoors.

Elsewhere in the interview, Miyamoto gave a special shout out to the games and creators that have caught his eye. Recently, he was impressed with Level 5's Professor Layton series and its producer, Akihiro Hino. Looking forward, he hopes players will take to the new style of play offered by Konami's Winning Eleven Play Maker 2008.

I'm just saying there is possibility. Just look at the Armored Core series. I think there is like 11 games and the last one that came out for Ps3 and 360 is Armored Core 4

The Fatal Frame games always had the number in the title and this one didn't. Thats why i said that. And im pretty sure there are fans of the series (like me) who would like to see how the series looks on a Ps3 and 360. But anyway. FF4 or not, it doesnt change the fact that i WANT THIS GAME!

Suda is always busy, he never even know what he's gonna be doing next.
"I'll work with Kojima after No More heroes", later on "I'll work on the 360 after No More heroes" (possibly on the first version of Fatal Frame, before being decided to go on Wii?) and now, he's actually working on another game, for the Wii (possibly FF on Wii + another game on the 360 tho).

He's hard to follow, tho

January 30, 2008 - For fans of the horror genre, there are few games that can stack up to the intensity and mood created in Tecmo's Fatal Frame franchise. Even if you've never played Fatal Frame before, however, there's reason to start paying attention now, as the franchise's fourth incarnation is heading exclusively to Wii.

First details on the game were unveiled earlier today, and while sparse, they paint a great story for Wii owners and survival horror fans. Fatal Frame 4: The Mask of the Lunar Eclipse (tentative translation) has been announced exclusively for Nintendo's console with such key players as Shibata Makoto as director, Keisuke Kikuchi (longtime series producer), and even Suda 51 – best known for Killer 7 and No More Heroes – serving as a second director for the game. In addition, the game is a full-on partnership between Tecmo and Nintendo, and will be published with the Nintendo name headlining the product. As an interesting note, rumors have stated that the Big N has purchased the Fatal Frame name, and it looks like one of the industry's top horror franchises could now be a Nintendo exclusive from now on. This is exactly the kind of announcement hardcore gamers have been waiting for on Wii.

Well, it is Fatal Frame 4.

BTW, SSBB sold 500k+ copies yesterday...

February 1, 2008 - A trusted retail blog from Japan has leaked out early sales data for January 31, a particularly busy day for gamers with both Smash Bros. and Devil May Cry 4 seeing release.

According to the blog, Smash Bros. Brawl sold 500,000 copies in its first day. More important than this figure, though, is that retailers sold out of 80% stock, far greater than the 20% stock figures managed by Super Mario Galaxy at its launch.

An 80% stock depletion likely means sell outs at major retailers. Nintendo will be pumping more stock into the retail channels for Saturday, the blog reports.

Devil May Cry 4 was less successful than Mario and crew, but also managed to clear out of 60% of its stock. The PS3 version of the game sold 140,000 units in its first day, besting the Xbox 360 version's 30,000.

Other big performers for Thursday include Suzumiya Haruhi no Tomadoi, which topped 100,000, and Tales of Destiny Director's Cut, which sold 70,000. Both titles are for the PS2. For the PS3, Disgaea 3 managed 40,000 units.

More accurate figures for the launch period of all these games should be available next Friday.

They don't buy every franchise tho, they didn't buy Soul Calibur, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy and the like.
In fact, they buy less franchises than Sony or MS do. Instead they usually create them or work on them in collaboration with other studios (like SSBB, MGS : TTS or various other stuff)

I know someone who did something similar to that for one year... He almost snapped from the mind numbing job it is . Most companies that do that though provide a lot of extra stuff for their testers, like free dinners and a rec night every once in awhile. And being Nintendo, I'm sure they have something along those lines.

Beta testing as a job (and not a hobby) seems like a really hard job to do, not as hard as working in a production line, but not too far off either.

But damn must it be amazing at the same time...

I'd like to beta test just to get some idea of when a game will be released when we get no news of it... Kinda like Alan Wake .

But somehow, I think games like Mario Karts (and other games by Nintendo in the same genre) must be not too bad to beta test, since they are games that are made to stay fun for a long time. Sure it must be boring to bump into the wall 500 times to see if you can go through it and get under the stage, but at the same time when it comes to playing the game normally it becomes a lot better than if you'd be beta-testing a SP game, cause at least you can play through the game for the 50 times and it won't be as bad. (it's boring, but less than a SP game, that's for sure, it's kinda like beta-testing SSBB, it's just not as bad since the game is made to be played 100000 times already )
