Tokyo, Japan (Sept. 12, 2007) - Tokyo-based video game developer Q Entertainment, Inc. today announced that the critically acclaimed video game title "Rez" is being developed for the Xbox LIVE Arcade with a target release date of Q1 2008. Originally released by SEGA in Japan in 2001 for the Dreamcast and PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, followed by a North American release only for the PlayStation 2 and European release on both platforms in early 2002, Rez was developed by SEGA's United Game Artists ("UGA") division. Tetsuya Mizuguchi, former president of UGA and current chief creative officer of Q Entertainment, conceptualized and produced the fast-action shooter, which is known to be one of the most unique, offbeat and eccentric games ever released.

Seems you bought it a bit too soon Hushy, then again, you do have the trance vibrator

Now all they need is Crazy Taxi with online rankings, that would be insane. Meanwhile, I'll just stick with my DC version, can't wait till I can play it on a new monitor.

Nice, I just noticed Shikigami No Shiro 3 will be on the 360 as well, which is another popular Dreamcast shooter, SnS 2 that is.

I am seeing the XBox360 continue the DC's legacy... in a positive way! This is a good way to revive DC games.

Funny how many people used to think 360 would be dreamcast the second, and you know what? It kind of is, just better selling.

Personnaly, I won't buy a game twice (even if it's a good one like REZ) just for the HD rendering... (ok, the 5.1 sound is a + if you've got the correct equipment...)

Even more when you can have the same thing using your purchased games on emus (http://membres.lycos.fr/parotaku/temp_img/rez-emu.jpg)... or playing the PS2 version in HD on PS3 (I guess... I don't have a PS3 to confirm this one...)
Well, maybe it's just me...

On the other hand, I waited for Shikigami 3 on PS2 but it never showed up (altough the 3D is not really more complex than on Shiki 2...) and now it'll be available on Xbox360...
Great for those who own this console but I'm personnaly sad not to be able to play it...

Well yeah, for a moment I thought the DC would outlive the 360 in Japan. Unfortunately most shooters now go to the 360. It still pains me to see quality Naomi games being released on a different system while the DC is being ignored, especially with those by Grev like the recent Senko no Ronde. So you'd better pray they'll release those other games in the west, or else you'll be importing like any Dreamcast shooter fan as well

I wouldn't expect more Dreamcast shooters, am glad to have Ikaruga on the Gamecube, and think the more Naomi shooters/other games getting ported to current gen systems is good.

The Dreamcast is Dead, accept it.

Although I'll own one until I can't get a used Dreamcast. I still love the system, even though it's dead.

Well in fact you don't have to point me at it being dead, for I have a dead on in my room which needs replacement

But indeed, I think we've come to the point that releasing such games on the 360 allows for more profit, especially since they can easily be distributed via Live as well. It doesn't bother me that much, I've had good times with the system and I will continue to have with many of the great games that have been released on it. Instead of spending €70,- on an import game (like Under Defeat LE) I now have found different games to spend my money on as well. There's some good PC games coming up, and I might even save up for a new console.

If you'd realise that some of the recently released Dreamcast games moved to the #1 spot in the sales charts, you should've known it wasn't dead until the developers said so. Some of these of course weren't big budget titles, but hell, they sold well, which is all that matters. Combined with the relatively low costs developers break even pretty quickly. Also, Sega never announced it "dead", all they said was that they'd temporarily stop production because there's enough of them in warehouses anyway. Of course, our "professional" gaming media had a whole different interpretation, but then again, when looking for honest and unbiased information you have to do your own research ever since that generation.

I think I just crapped my pants! Thanks for posting, Cid.

I'd better get my 360 hooked up to the internet then. I moved last month and put all my entertainment stuff in the basement, no internet connection down there. I don't really want to get the (ridiculously expensive) official 360 wireless adapter either, guh...

I hope they make it compatible with the trance vibrator...come on guys, the 360 has a USB port!!

nice news... and Cid, I'm curious.... are you planning to get another DC or do you consider the time you had with it to be adequate?

Well, as crazy as it may sound, I might have arranged myself a new DC. A friend and colleague of mine went into town (Rotterdam) because he knew of a shop that still had one for sale. So last week he told me he had arranged me a new one, so that'd be awesome. Then again, I only believe that guy when I see it, for past experiences never proved him to be trustworthy. Either way, I still want a new Dreamcast, because there's no other system that will play me Virtua Tennis 2, Crazy Taxi and Shenmue. Not getting one would mean I might as well throw all my DC games in the bin.

Of course, I'm not going to buy a console of which I know it will break down eventually, not before MS actually does something about it. They already admitted they have made a big mistake, but they seem not to care about it.

They did.. they extended the warranty for all past and future consoles and gave refunds to anyone who had to pay for repairs. The whole process cost them around a billion or something ridiculous and I salute them for it.

that's great indeed, but much rather than all kinds of warranty I'd prefer a device that doesn't break easily.
