Metal Gear Solid Theme plagarised?

Not sure if this is well known on Emuforums but this is something interesting I found about the main theme for Metal Gear Solid. It sounds a lot like an older tune composed by a russian classical composer called Sviridov. Check out the video.

Poor Hideo looks rather embarrassed but I guess it isnt his fault if his team did plagarise the piece.

Not likely. It's part of MGS' success and it is often quoted for its OST.

They should feel lucky that they ripped it from a Russian componist rather than from one from the States. The RIAA is rather suit happy lately

I don't even think it was that similar. It was in the same key and used an orchestra, that's about it. MGS uses the same notes, yes, but in a totally different way.

Hey, anyone listen to AC/DC? Their individual songs sound more like each other than this Russian song sounds like MGS

To me, the first few notes are almost identical to the first part of the MGS theme, but apart from that, I dont think they can say it was definitely plagarised.

A lot of stuff gets vampirised by westerners. For westerners, tapping in the patrimoin of the second world isnt muh different from ttttttthem tapping into wester public domain, ue to differences in patents and so. Remember Tetris? Would you have even suspected what the block piling concept was?

As an audiophile, I must admit this *indeed* is *too* close to not be the very direct inspiration of it. It is a thing to have a few tones similar, it is too much of a "coincidence" that it happens in most of the piece, and shares a similar tone and intros and outrous as well (the main difference being only in the instrument played, which isnt really excusing them. Redoing a guitar solo with another instruments as a techno mix doesnt make it less a copypaste.
Also, they had no answers about that, and noticed how similar it was themeselves, so the copycating story is quite likely.
Oh noes!! Kojima God-sama's team ripped evil s0viet artist!! Plz don't delay MGS4 becuz of eeevil greedy kommunistz!!

Try doing the same with any 5th-rate music from the RIAA and you'll see lawyers circling your house before you celebrate that.

good catch! Although it sounds the same! but the russian composer's theme contains more notes and different slightly high pitched tones. but yeah! the sounds the same!

from different pov, it's not like Van Lewig Bethooven is going back from grave to sue video game companies.. (one in my mind, Resident Evil 1 Moon Light Sonata - I love it =)
