Download Farcry for free

Direct link to file. http://downloads.hdvg.net/files/FarCry_Setup.zip

Seems they're giving this game away for free now. Perhaps to build up hype for crysis, who knows. But apparently it will have ads in game, I don't know how that's going to work. I have 50percent downloaded so far, will discuss about it after I get it.

Read more about it here .

Direct download too?

I'm not sure about that "freebie" stuff, but looking into it now.

EDIT: You skipped "Rayman Raving Rabbids" and "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time".
All these seem to be ad-supported (you get ads during playing, possibly even behaviorally-targeted)
What the hell? Is that even official?

'nuff said, that is the reason I don't watch the movies on TV and prefer them on DVD. They want to put the ads into everything nowadays :/

Okay I got the game, installed it, and played the first level. Here are somethings I noted.

First of all, you must create an account at Ubisoft to unlock the game installer.

The game is up to date, version 1.4.

It's been awhile since I played farcry, but this version seems to have better graphics. There is self shadowing on the character and the texture seems to be much more detailed. Seems they added depth of field and motion blur too. Look at the screenshots.

There is no cd check.

I've only seen one mcdonald hamburger at the title screen so far, and that's before I enabled my firewall.

The farcry.exe seems to be connected to 234.5.6.7 on port 5678 . I'm guessing this is ad server.

Blocking the farcry.exe from internet access disables all in game ads it seems.

You can't play online because it requires a valid cd key which you don't get. I guess ubisoft knows that so many people have pirated the game already so giving the single player mode to people on the fence about trying this game should be a good way of promoting the upcoming farcry2/crysis .

Overall pretty good deal and game.

Looks nice enough of a deal. I think I'll collect these freebies. They might never be played, but I'm keeping those under wraps till it happens

Hey, other games have been released in such a way just these 2 last days. Looks like a trend

That site is going at 8k/sec. Are there any torrents?

The lack of online is depressing. Anyone know if this version can accept the 64-bit update pack?

so i can block the game from access or disable my net altogether while im playing single player to cut out the in game ads? i might try it then, i dont do that multiplayer thing much. ironically, i was actually going to buy this game within a week or so. do you know if they add some sneaky crap like spyware or whatnot in addition to the ads? i have to be skeptical as can be here man, as 99.9% of these "to good to be true" things have a way of ****ing you over one way or another. i mean, just look at my avatar for example. im going to keep my knife handy in the event i need to make some emergency fool stabbings.

edit- wow. 156 ****ing hours until this thing finishes downloading. im going to go get drunk in the meantime.

Ubisoft itself was kinda sneaky. Remember Starforce.
Installing it inside a sandbox, like Sandboxie, coupled with Regshot snapshots of the registry (before/after), should allow to see exactly what modifications and new files get added.
Cant try it myself here for now, though.

The bundled ad things sounds a bit gay to me.

Seems kinda pointless shoving a mcdonalds ad in there.

Theoretical situation :

Oh im going to play far cry, (*hamburger pops up) oh screw it im off to mcdonalds.

LOL, like that would happen, unless you have some really fat kid playing it who has the attention span of a goldfish.

That is exactally true. I always ignore ads, no matter where they may be.

Someone already tried using the Host file to block "234.5.6.7"?

I could have sworn I saw it in Wal Mart stores for $9.99 in Jewel case versions.
It seemed to be a limited time. I had thought about buying it but my PC is too slow and I'm not sure I would have stayed interested in it!

I might eventually pick up the XBOX version, I dunno, it's just a thought. I think Instintcs is backwards compatible *although it makes no difference as I have an XBOX and not a 360!* even though it's a bit pricey, $26.99? IIRC USED?

UPDATE #1

NOPE I'm wrong, it's $12.99, not bad, I think I bought Doom 3 Collectors for that.

Actually 11.79 after discount *Edge card*...

UPDATE #2

Frag, I checked EBAY out of curiosity and there were 3 sellers offering it for $4.99 plus shipping, and the total was under $10, granted 1 was media mail, but still...

I seriously doubt even if I had broadban that I'd want to download this monster and get ads, even for free, it just doesn't sound worth the time downloading it versus buying a copy for under $10.

But that's my opinion, feel free to disagree...
