f.e.a.r.

i keep hearing about this game, is it any good? is it like one of scary/freak out kind of shooters or what? how well would it run on my system. i will be adding another GB of RAM, and a second video card to use SLI within a few weeks so keep that in mind.

Yes, this game is awesome. I played Doom3 from beginning to the end at night without freaking out once, but this just gives me total chills. The sound and lighting effects did a really good job in immersing you into the game, and you will feel it right from the start. Just put on your headphones and crank up the volume at night.

I played this game with a P4 / 9800pro, so I am pretty sure yours will be just fine. Try Fear Combat too, its an awesome free multiplayer.

i thought doom 3 was a bit of a letdown gameplay wise because i never really freaked out playing it. it was too predictable, walk/run into room, demons spawn behind or from the sides over and over and over again. its true that the original doom played the same way but it wasnt attemping to create a scary experience like doom 3 was. worst possible thinng you could do when making a game intended to be scary is making it predictable. it destroys the entire thing. still a fun game though, story was pretty good too.

ianyway m seeing two fear games on amazon for winXP, are they both full games or is one of them some sort of add-on?

Wierd, I played not but 6 hours ago :O Its a sign, a sign I hadnt played it for about 2 months. Forgot how amazing it was. Of course, since then I have matured and no longer use my logitech gamepad to play it, im no n00b ^_^ But it is a reallly good game, I find it easy to get lost though so it takes me a while to make any real progress, but it rocks.

Yes, get it jonc, lest I lick you....

With a 7900 GS you should be able to play it maxed out, or nearly maxed out, probably even with AA turned on. Just don't use the soft shadows and you should be fine. With my P4 it was unplayable though until I got 2GB of ram in dual channel. Before that either the loading took ages (512) or the game stuttered a lot (1GB single channel)

I never found F.E.A.R to be scary in the least. It's a solid fps with some nice flashy physics and some great AI.

Great single-player game, and online is good too. Just gets some time to getting used to fragging other peeps . I still play time to time when I'm bored and don't have too much free time...

The shadows alone scared me a lot, and that was in the single player demo. Of course, the trick it to let yourself get dragged into the game. So close the curtains, lock the door and crank up the volume. Otherwise, if playing this game in the light, with Winamp on the background playing some jPop, I can imagine you won't be scared

Game is ok. Nice FPS/Horror shooter. Offline mode is great, but when playing online it is just terrible for me. Played it about 10 hours online then I quit. There is also Expansion "Extraction Point" didnt try it. :/

Of course I was playing the game in the correct setting. Playing at light with no light and volume set to as high as my ears would allow it, I think playing most games while listening to music is blasphemy (except MMO's). Maybe it was the ability to go into bullet time, should anything scary happen or something jump out at you, just pressing that handy button slowed everything down so you could take care of the new threat.

I liked the game but my rig was (actually, it still is) too weak to handle it. I played it in 640x480 mode with some weeak settings. There are really some "holy **** my hair is upside down" parts, like going from a building into a hospital full of blood and just when you think it can't get frikier a FRIKIN SKELETON JUMPS AT YOU AND YOU HAVE TO SHOOT IT OR BE DROWNED IN BLOOD!!!! After you lose almost all ammo on skeleton, the game transports you back to the building you were before the whole thing happene.

soft shadows is technology that makes shadows less black and blend them into the environment and give them AA
