Unless Square has the world mostly on disks like with PSO, I highly doubt there will be an offline option for FF XI (which will be why it's the first FF I definitely will not be getting).

Sucks for u, I don't think I will be getting FFXI either. The graphics are hardly stunning like in FFX. It was a bad idea to make an online game only. First off u have to pay to play online?? Let me ask u something..u already bought the freaken game and then u have to pay more money to play it??? Doesn't seem like a very smart move at all. ^-^

It looks like Square changed its plans again. "SquareSoft has announced that its PlayOnline service will no longer incur a monthly fee. However, some of the products that will use the service, like the online RPG Final Fantasy XI, will still have its own monthly fees."

I definately don't like the idea of paying for a game and then having to pay to play it. But oh well, just have to wait for XII.

That sucks...Blizzard games are free and its completely fun. Paying to play a great game like Final Fantasy would be very weird...

I would suggest you don't get FFXI, its just one of those games where its not worth it. ^-^ I'm passing FFXI, and making room for FFXII. ^-^

Actually, since they're also releasing a PC version, you wouldn't have to get the hardware. It's still a waste of money and time.

Why not wait for PSO v2 to come out for gamecube, ps2, pc and xbox? No offence, but PSO v2 is looking much more promising (realtime battles...) because of offline modes for leveling up and collecting items. Plus, the fee to play online is only $15 for THREE months.

well, I hear they might port this one to other things (like PC, so more people can play online.) my problem is, is there any way of hooking up a PS2 into a inhome netwoerk thats online, instead of using a phone line. cuz it would suck if I couldn't. Lastly I don't know what you are talking about that "per use" charge of playonline, as far as I hear, its monthly payment, $10 a month.

Actually the Game is coming out on May 2002 and the ps2 harddive+broadband is coming out too. The game is $49.99 of course and the broadband harddrive is only $40. The keyboard around $50 or you can get the gameshark one I suppose and phone bill is the bad part. If the game is an addiction like ultima online was.... uh oh

still, we already have broadband, will I be able to hook my PS2 onto our inhome network using my own computer as a router?

Probably not, I could be wrong because think about it for a second. Would they really make the PS2 compatible with PC hardware?? No I don't think so....so you would have to buy their hardware to play the game. ^-^

you are dead wrong.

i have a ps2 and have been able to use a Gateway Usb keybord and my usb optical mouse just fine for the games that support them. I have also been able to use my gerneric usb hub.
As for broadband, if any of you had THPS3 you would know that the game is compatible with a good number of usb ethernet adapters such as 3com.
So, as it stands, the compatability issues lie mainly in the game and not the hardware. This may change once the harddrive is released, but at the moment, most generic usb peripherals will probably work depending on the game.

Online games work. I tried a couple. UO didn't seem right at all. AO had no decent trade skills and player interaction, and Everquest is just a little awkward to get into.

I don't doubt that square will pull off a masterpiece in FFXI. It won't have the plot that FF is synonymous, but I will be at least trying it. I want a MMORPG, but none of the ones out there at the mo interest me.
