Personal Wii Experience

Well i'm thinking about getting a Wii and i wanted to know who already has one and what experiences you made with this console.

Somebody mentioned on IRC that the wii underclocks itself in order to play Gamecube games, i wonder if that is true and also if it wouldn't be smarter to leave a little bit of headroom for games like Resident Evil 1 Remake who could use a little bit of speed improvement. Would be nice if someone could clarify this.

Other than that i'd also like to know about the Online Mode and the Classics one can get from the Online Shop.

Another thing i'm very interested in is if i can also use my Computer Monitor with it, i read it was possible but i wonder how much hassle it is to make that possible.

I just bought a Wii yesterday because I've played it with friends and I think it's awesome. I like the silly games like Wii Sports, Wii Play, and Wario Ware. I also bought Zelda but I haven't opened it yet.

If you're wondering about what games you can get online, check Nintendo's website.

AFAIK there isn't a direct VGA adapter for the Wii (like DC or 360 status), so you'll just have to get a generic one. My friend is using his Wii on a VGA monitor, he's using component > s-video converter > s-video input to VGA box > monitor. Works fine. The nice thing about the way the Wiimote/sensor bar works is that you can use it on any screen, unlike the way a light gun works.

If you go to svideo and back again doesn't that reduce the video quality to interlaced?

And Hushy, you should know that we now demand a video of you playing some Wii games

I think that video quality would look the same like when running through something like DSCaler.
I personally prefer a TV with s-video then (or rather RGB SCART, but that's European), but it doesn't royally suck either.

NF, I haven't bought a Wii, but was able to play Wii Sports and Rayman Raving Rabbits on one, and it was simply a lot of good, simple fun. Might still get one sometime.

"a lot of good simple fun", that sums it up pretty well.

you gotta open it, its amazing.

My only problem is that im concerned that all the games are going to be the same in controlls. What happens when we have done all we can with the wiimote? do we just make more games with the same actions? If your playing a racing game on the wii, are they all gonna function the same way in controls? Im concerned that all the games will feel the same.

But so far so good. Lots of games im waiting for, metriod, mario galaxy, ssbb, resident evil umbrella chronicles, project hammer, day of crissis.

The wii has many different possibilites...
Like for example putting "wii watches" on your hands, feet and body to "control the game"
Big N is crazy enough to pull something like that off, im sure.
Not to forget that are normal gamepads too for it anyway.

That's how I usually feel about either old school gaming or special controllers. It's the exact response I had when doing some Samba de Amigo for the first time. It will seem odd at first, but once you get started with a couple of friends and a fridge filled up with beer you are guaranteed to have an unforgettable night.

Yeah, I decided I'm gonna play it when I get back home to my widescreen, surround sound, etc. I bought a component cable on Amazon today, that should be cool as well

Me and my wii kick ass when together. Nothing but fun coming out of the box, only problem im having is im finishing games faster than there coming out because the damm thing is so addictive. So for the moment Im playing some PC games with my wiimote until the next title I want comes out.

I have heard that there is a soccer game comming out for the wii that uses your feet somehow.

Yea with glovepie, if you can write scripts with it (which is easy) you can play pretty much anything with it perfectly, or use ones that come with it.

(Like you can playing OOT with TP style controls, wicked I say.)

emwearz, what games do you have? I have Zelda and Wii Play...for now I want to get Wario Ware, Paper Mario, and maybe Big Brain Academy and Mario Party. That's a lot for me now...I'm still playing Forza on 360.
