Taito Legends 2, Americans screwed, no PC version, PS2 limited release...

I snagged a copy at the Electronics Boutique at the Cranberry Mall in Cranberry, Pa *Not down near Pittsburgh, but between Oil City and Franklin.

I found out that Electronics Boutique is the only company selling it in the states, and that none in my area recieved more than 3 copies, the Cranberry one receiving 2 copies, 1 of which I purchased, and no, they are not getting any more in, what they received was all they're selling, get it while you can.

I've played it a bit, and the only bug I found, so far, in it was that Qix didn't play the "music" between levels, when you complete a level, the music cuts out after 1-2 seconds and it goes directly to the next level. I've played Qix a few times, and it happened every time.

The games seem fine, otherwise, and I enjoyed buying a "legal MAME" although it didn't have a credits list and the Playstation 2 documentation didn't show Aaron or Nicola?

BTW, the PC version, which IIRC was only released in Europe, uses Starforce, a nasty protection scheme that can break CD-RW and DVD-RW drives.

Which version of starforce does it use. The new lite version is no where near as bad as the old ones.

A less destructive virus? I'll believe it when I see it!

I'm not risking my DVD-RW to play a video game!

My hardware is more important to me than playing a $20 game!

I believe the latest ones don't install the driver.....
I also personally never had much problems with starforce (well, one conflict with daemon tools) , despite having it in several titles on my previous pc.
Yet, I prefer to avoid it, so it was a bummer when I discovered it on the Taito cd.....

Its nature screws up your CD/DVD-RW, isn't that bad enough?
Didn't the older version(s) upgrade themselves when you went online?
Ooh! Fun.

I like my DVD-RW and backing up data on my PC...

I'll stay Starforce free!

update... I can't post any links, but there's an unofficial nocd "patch" that makes it possible to run it without starforce. problem solved.

I see either Electronics Boutique lied or were screwed, Wal Mart is selling the Taito Legends for $14.99, damn, it's not an EB exclusive and they have it $5 cheaper...

Hmmm, I wonder how much it'd cost to import...Hmmm....

the patch seems to be for the xplosiv (empire interactive) version... just saying that as a precaution, because I remember the problems you had with Daytona.

The Taito Legends 2 was only released in Europe *PC version*, I'll have to import it if I want it, the one I mentioned previously was the PS2 version, which I had bought at Electronics Boutique and was supposed to be only sold by them, later Wal Mart seemed to get a few copies and are selling it $5 cheaper!

Taito Legends 2, Americans screwed, no PC version, PS2 limited release...

See the thread title? no PC version, PS2 limited release!

Yeah, that was my point, I was making sure you knew I mentioned the PC version wasn't released in the States, neither was the XBOX version to my knowledge, although I can't see myself buying 3 versions no matter how much I like to support MAME, 2 versions, however is possible.

I did buy 2 versions of the Miday Arcade Treasures 2, and 3 of the Midway Arcade Treasures, but one version of each was for Charline! I have 2 versions of the Miday Arcade Treasures 3 but she doesn't seem interested in a version made up of just racing games.

I tend to get 2 versions for a PC and console version, particularly if my console is too slow to play it, I.E., Doom 3, Need For Speed Most Wanted, etc...

I just can't see wanting a PS2/XBOX/PC version of the Taito Legends 2 pack, but I might buy the PC version...We'll see...

Nah, it's not, I've got three copies of Baldur's Gate 2

1. The old Whitelabel ones, which desintegrated in the box, and exploded in my drive.
2. A copy that came with the entire series in one box
3. The full version as it was originally released, with a 200 page manual, and world map. 2 Pounds on UK ebay, couldn't resist.

And I think there was another game which I had bought a couple of times, can't recall which one though.

BTW, Electronics Boutique dropped the price of the Taito Legends 2 *Playstation 2* to $14.99...

If the stores still have 'em, I'm unsure if you can buy them online?

Ok, they don't show for the PS2, but now the PC version is showing up...????

Does it have Starforce?

hm, well, there's an empire interactive logo instead of the xplosiv logo on mine, but both are brands from the same distributor, so I think it's the same.
However, the patch to remove starforce is for version 1.0, and there was an update to the game.

Well I might buy it and if I can't remove Starforce just keep the game.
I like to support legal emulation, I just won't run it if it screws up my DVD-RW.
I really wish they'd use Starforce on $50 games NOT $19.95 budget games.
Why even screw legit owners with this gunk? It's not like screwing over my DVD-RW is going to win me over as a customer.
