Consoles vs PC
I wanted to start a discussion about consoles vs computers(Has it been done here before?) Anyways, I like hearing opinions and facts about this. For me, if you're a dedicated gamer you'll always buy a console system. Like for example I bought AMD Athlon X2 4600+ system that at the time was the best out. Within a few weeks it was outdated and games became harder to play as you don't get enough of the desired performance as well as the GPU not performing as well. But with a console, your guaranteed the same sort of power/graphics/performance and saving money from not upgrading every month or so. What do you guys think?

Fair point but I feel there is more to it than that:
1) what type of gamer you are: most like PC mmorpg and fps etc as for consoles stuff like sport and fighting games and a mix of others etc. 2) Most people I know own a gaming rig and console so maybe thats classed as a 'true gamer', because you aren't gonna 'miss out' on anything. You get the best of both worlds to a certain extent. 3) If feel that getting a console is best too because they are future proof for a certain length of time, unlike PC's where if you want your game to play well you need to upgrade, but again this depends on the type of person you are. I feel that hardcore gamers usually have a monster gaming rig to get best performance in game, whilst console versions of the same PC game will have certain thing removed due to hardware restrictions. I'm not sure which I prefer, I like both because they have there own advantages and disadvantages.

Personally i'm a PC Gamer, mainly because i really enjoy usind Mouse+Keyboard combo, and i like to have tweaking abilites and i love the modding scenes around good games.
I tend to wait for the consoles to become cheaper and buy them along with the really good games after about a year or 2. I've made that experience that waiting is really helpfull when it comes to this stuff. Mainly it's the price of the games/hardware but also because of certain hardware failures and firmware stuff and of course the tendeny of companies to rerelease their stuff (substance, subsistence, ps2slim, ndslite,...). Even if the hardware becomes old the games that were already released for the good old pc can keep you up like forever, it's mostly the urge to "bettar graphiczz!11!!" that makes you want the most up to date stuff. But i have seen and gotten so many great games which have never made it into the spotlight lately that i'm quite satisfied for the next 1-2years. The other thing i never tried is online gaming on a console, i've never seen a game that made me want to go online, and i never bothered to install the needed stuff. Maybe this may change, but up to now, online gaming was pc gaming for me. I spent days of my life in front of Diablo 2, and others of that kind. I will definitely be getting a wii and a ps3 but that will take a while for already stated reasons, but i still am and will always be a computer gamer.

For me, it's very nice to have a PC because I do multipurpose work, literally putting my work and my quiet time at the same place.
![]() As for PC requirements, for me, I'm not really keen on graphics, so I actually prefer to be running on 60FPS even if the game looks like a PS1 game. (Since I'm from the 8-Bit generation.)

I play on consoles (and watch movies also) and use PC for internet/graphic design(well, at least I used to)/music/emulation(mainly MAME/Kawaks/UAE now)/writing letters to mama, etc. The only computer I loved to play on has been long deceased (Amiga). Fortunately there always is UAE
I used to play on PC much more in the past, though.

Well, considering the entire freeware scene, and modding communities on PC... I feel I have way too much games on my PC that I don't have near enough time to play or try already... so I never felt the need to get a next-gen console... when I was younger I'd get lots of games for my consoles though!

The only consoles I lack are 360, Wii and PS3. Never really had the urge to buy any of them. I have the money, just that I still have a huge load of PS2 and PC games I still haven't touched/finished

I make sure I'll have a proper pc that can run recent and near future games rather well around the time the new consoles are being released.
Then as soon as this pc gets outdated and can't play recent games anymore, consoles have dropped in price and I might pick up one of those. Then my pc will get outdated again somewhere around the time when the next generation of consoles will be released. Personally I really prefer consoles and console gaming, but right now I needed some new pc hardware because I simply want to be set and I wanted to get rid of my P4 for plenty of reasons. Right now my PC can play any game I throw at it, provided the developers didn't get lazy. That's my major problem with PC gaming. My hardware is more than powerful enough, but the games suck in the technical department. Most of them are so freaking unoptimized, it alone causes a huge overhead. Games developed strictly with the PC in mind run so much better than certain console ports. I'm also the kind of person who always draws the short straw with PC gaming. Getting glitches and problems no other person has. Then again, I'm confident such things would happen to me if I'd buy a current gen console

A PC can be upgraded to meet the future demands of games that don't exist yet, or games that are early in development. It's not uncommon for PC game developers to design their games based on what they *think* PC gamers will have for hardware when the game is ready to ship. The companies that began developing games for Vista and DX10 months ago were definitely thinking ahead. Oh, and my PC can do more than just play games.

I choose CONSOLES! they teh best! pay $600 and forget about the future upgrade yeaaa!
PC? pfft, its either I have no clue what to upgrade or most of the time ... to damn expensive to upgrade, and i always get low frame rate in high end games cos i can't tweak my own PC so i just go ahead and purchase a $600 CONSOLE! Even through I knew every consoles are made from a high end PC.. but i rather pay $600 for a console! they'r k00l & slick... not to mention i get to play teh coolest hack n slash newly release single player game in every month that cost me $60 bucks ea. I also tend to try beating my OWN high score every time i play on my console.

Sigh, apart from one person thank you for your opinions as I like a good discussion. Yeah I know that a console can only do so much when bought I feel if the console is good enough for you(Happy with the way games are made) then I'm happy to wait for the next generation console brother or sister. All well and good if you have the money to keep upgrading your pc time and time again. It's almost like investing a good amount of money for quality games for 2-3 years or the life span of the console. I had a Psone for a long while even when PS2 came out, despite knowing the graphics were horrid in comparsion

I like both, I tend to play racing games, emulation, and a few FPS games on my PC, and arcade, fighting, racing, RPGs, among others on console.
Sometimes my PC isn't up to snuff on racers and I'll buy a racer for the console, then when I upgrade my PC, I'll get the racer, which might be in the budget bin at that point. I do spend more time @ my PC playing emulation than on any of my consoles...

i like both. i started out as a console gamer, way way back in the day. i usually find myself playing pc games and console games via emulation on my pc here now, although i cant do the super fancy stuff like ps2 emulation. but i try and mix it up, i dont really favor one over the other. however having the ability to play both pc and console games in one place, on my laptop, is quite nice. i tend to buy the newer consoles late, i got my gamecube only a couple months ago for 80 bucks and it came with the RE remake and a bunch of other stuff. i know the gc isnt really new but whatever. screw you hippies.

This thread is interesting.
I'm a pc gamer, really though I used to play consoles on PSX Gboy and other older systems, I became used to PC gaming because for me it gives me more freedom of using a mouse and keyboard and I'm also a cheap gamer pc can go more expensive than a console but its only for desperate PC gamers that who wants to get thier edge. I am happy with my system because it can run my games with ease
