yeah, ps1 chipping was pretty rife. It was about the only system I could think of where almost everyone knew some guy down the street who could mod them for next to nothing. Not to mention just about every car boot sale or flea market having stacks and stacks of copied games on display. Something I haven't seen to anywhere near the same degree with any systems that have come later.

It could be argued that Sony purposefully made the copy protection on PS1 easy to circumvent in order to get people buying more consoles and increasing their market share in the long run. Pure speculation of course, but if they did, it was a bloody smart move that brought in a whole shedload of gamers.

You may not think so but... face it: The Wii doesn't have that many games either. Yet, it still sells like crazy... and even crazier after it's gotten its own modchip and all that. The PS3, however, only got its sale boost in March because of some "loader" rumors floating around the net... and then in April, several proofs were given to prove that those loaders won't make it to the market any time soon... and probably will never make it. Results? Drastic sale figures drop in April.

It's gotten so bad that it's actually rarer to find PS1's that aren't modded rather than modified ones if I remember in my country.
Same here. PS1 games sell for $.50 each here... while PS2 games are around $1 to $2 each... and XBox games are $1.5 to $2. What I'm concerned about is not the fact that there are modded consoles in the country... but rather, how some businesses tend to buy them in packs of 50 to 100 consoles and rent them out. That is mostly the case here... since the people are mostly poor in rural areas and all that.

This statement is so blatantly stupidly it's not even worth me elaborating on it. Hopefully you have the brain cells capable of knowing what I mean, as in, the real reason why there were a lot of PS3s sold that month.

So you are saying that the PS3 sold so much in Europe despite its not-so-great game lineup and missing launch titles, plus supposedly inferior hardware and a bit higher price tag, because of... what? Mind you, eBay scrapers already knew that they couldn't resell the console... and European gamers already knew that their PS3 units were not going to be as great as units from other countries. Promotions were great during that period of time, but not everyone got those promotions, right?

Edit: I admit that there were other factors... but the fact is that a lot of people still bought their PS3 consoles because they believed in an ISO loader from PDX coming out at the beginning of May. You need to check out underground information sometimes, too, instead of just reading surface twists and plots from people who may or may not just give news for the heck of it.
