Parasite Eve 3 revealed as cell phone title

I'm amazed that noone has posted this.

The above picture (digitally modified to add internal monologue text, alter perspective; here is the original image), taken at this weekend's Square Enix Party 2007 by Impress Watch, is the first indication that the developer has intentions of reviving Parasite Eve.

But if PE 3 is a work in progress for NTT DoCoMo FOMA cell phones, then it looks like this franchise has made the jump to mobile. Though Japanese mobile technology is admittedly more advanced than what we usually see in North America, it appears that Aya Brea and company will not be seen in lush cinematic sequences for which the series was once praised.

I lost interest in the series after the second game.
Putting on the phone also indicates that square also feels the same way about the franchise.

dunno, they have pretty awesome phones in Japan that are probably capable of putting out graphics better than the DS.....

PE is one of my favorite games for the PS1.... i just hope they work on PS3/360 release and i´ll be very happy.

Still you're left with crappy controls... And seeing how 95% of the Japanese population has DS anyway, I think they made a wrong decision.

W....T....F?!?!?! PE1 was amazing, PE2 not so much. And here I was hoping they would make up for it...but to make it as a cellphone game?! What the hell, did they drink too much sake or something ? This was a bad move on S-Es part. Why take a very good series and butcher it like that ? I know how advanced their cellphones are over there, but they still don't hold a candle to actual consoles...

maybe.... seeing how several big companies make a lot of phone games, the market for them is apparantly really good there. Still, I'd think the DS would do even better....

well, then, there's their reason to go with Mobiles.
Have to agree with Cid though that phones don't really control nicely for games. My K800i's "thumbstick" is a huge improvement over what I had before, but it's still not quite perfect. Graphically though, the thing's able to put out pretty decent 3D, allthough it still seems to be a bit below DS level. On the other hand, the screen's resolution is higher, despite being much smaller.

You don't seem to get it.Being on cellphones means it's JAPAN ONLY!
Just like that FFVII spinoff which focused on Turks.
Their cellphones are lightyears beyond that of in Europe,USA and other continents/countries.Do not expect it to release outside of Japan.

I wasn't taking that point into account, just why it's perfectly understandable that they release it on cellphones.

And, at some point in time it could very well see a port to one of the handhelds as well.

And the large shift to mobile and portable devices isn't strange at all. Take the DS... it's popular, rather cheap for consumers and developers to develop for as well. With the more and more fancy hardware, the game industry might be kind of blowing itself up. Devving huge epic games for expensive consoles that not everyone can buy isn't as lucrative as releasing games for handheld, phones, or a console such as the Wii.

But SE doesn't get any money from us when they don't release a game in the US or Europe, do they?

Sure, I rather see games on a DS than a phone. Yet, things like that happen, and sometimes a game goes to a platform that's not or not easily available to us.

Just once,i would like for SE not to **** on their fanbase outside of Japan and stopped thinking about money.People have been waiting over 10 FUC***** YEARS for a sequel to come out and they do this?
Yeah sure,i could have settled for a spinoff i don't really give a crap about them,but a main installment?

Its simply the case of different cultures,
If it were to be released in the EU, I can't see it selling very well.
Like you said yourself (samor), you rather have it on a DS,
so there is a different market here than there.
Only hardcore S-E fans over in these shores would buy it to complete their collection.

Half the japan exclusive games are too weird for my tastes anyway.

Who knows if demand is high enough they may do a console version or a hand held. Low chance thought as the second game was met with little enthusiasm.

I wouldn't like it, but I don't think I'd go nuts. I still haven't shot Konami for not bringing Policenauts to a platform near me in a language I can read =P
Besides, PE3 might eventually end up on a platform within your reach.
When Konami rereleased the original 2 Metal Gears for mobile phones in Japan, I really didn't believe I'd be able to get my hands on those, but hey, it eventually happened.

True... on the other hand, I think there's a lot I would play (like graphic novels) if they were in English. The DS brought a few of those to the West, and I quite like them (e.g. Phoenix Wright, Another Code)

there are exeptions as you say,
those titles are really good.

But most are bizzare- some in a good way.
