Tetris for PC?

What is the best build of tetris for the PC?

-Which is the best free version?
-Which is the best retail version?

I have a Tetris craving and would appreciate any good suggestions. Thanks!

Tetris Worlds is the easiest one to find in a store or EBay, you shouldn't have to pay more than $10-$20 for it.

I don't particularly like it, because if you play 2 player mode, it handicaps the loser, and continues to do so until the player who is losing starts to win.

I played a college buddy 2 player, and it started with the winner being the person who got 5 lines, then I had to get 10 lines and he only needed 5 lines, then I needed 15, 20, and at 25, it was impossible for me to win, yeah right, make him get 5 lines and me get 25, uh huh...

The next tetris was the previous PC tetris, any before that will require DOS Box or some kind of DOS emulator. I never played the next tetris, so I can't say much about it.

I'd say you'd find a number of freeware tetris games by googling tetris. I dunno how good the freeware versions are, heck I tend to play console versions of tetris. I particularly like Tetrisphere on the N64, although it is a very unique *weird* version of tetris.

I highly enjoyed Tetris Attack on Snes, but it's not the real tetris. The AI can become a bit too easy as well, still a great game you should check out.

You can't go wrong with the original Gameboy Tetris either.

Just get "Alawar Tetris 4000", a cool OpenGL/D3D based Tetris clone. It's superb.

Try looking for "Bastard Tetris" (sometimes called "Bastet").

This version lives up to its name by calculating the worst possible block to give you, and then dumping it on you. Excellent hair-pulling action.

And Cid, Tetris Attack was (and still is) one of my favorite games of all time. I'm still looking for a copy to buy, all I did before was just rent it all the time
