Starting May 31st, GameTap, a subscription-based video game on-demand service owned by Turner Broadcasting System (TBS), will offer thirty to sixty of its classic video games for free via a web-based application launcher called the Lite Player.
GameTap is planning on supporting the free service with banner advertisements played in the player directly before the game launches. To be able to play the free games, one must register for the free Green level membership.
Not only will the company offer free service, but the service will now simultaneously launch some titles via the game portal and retail stores. Tomb Raider Anniversary which will be released in retail stores on May 29th and immediately available for play at GameTap.
GameTap's services are usually $9.95 a month or $6.95 a month when paid for a full year in advance.
