The Console War Journal Entry #1: First Blood!

Ahem... today is 05/02/2007, and the Console War supposedly broke out in November of 2007, when the second (PS3) and third (Wii) forces appeared and challenged the first (XBox360) force. However, even though the war has been going on for almost half a year, no significant damage has been done or caused by any of the force... or has it?

I keep my PS3 and my Xbox 360 in an entertainment unit in the living room. It's a big wooden thing with glass doors, and while it looks cool, I guess it's not exactly what I'd cool well ventilated.

Anyway, this morning at some ungodly hour, both my kids got up and wanted to play videogames. My older son wanted to play Cars while my little guy wanted to watch, and fiddle with another controller while pretending to play. The pretend option turned out to be the Sixaxis (this is relevant, I'll come back to it.)

Now, the 360 on it's own doesn't run so hot that it can't handle being in the entertainment unit with the door shut. I've had it on for hours and hours and hours before, and it never gets so hot that the fan goes into turbo ******* mode. The PS3, on the other hand, is another story. If I keep that sucker in a confined space for too long, I fear for the safety of my family. Hence, whenever we play PS3 games...the door to the unit stays open.

So (back to the narrative) while pretending to play along with his brother, my little guy hits the PS button, and the PS3 springs to life, inside the closed entertainment unit, unbeknown to Mrs. D and myself.

Needless to say, temperatures rise, fans kick in, then more fans kick in, then some new, untold level of nuclear reactor-grade cooling kicks in deep within the bowels of the PS3, and the first thing I know of this is when a little voice cries, "Dad, something's wrong with my game."

Conditions in the confined space had become so super-heated that the 360 red-ringed out, big time.

So. Bottom line, my PS3 killed my 360. I have learned a very valuable lesson from this.

So... after 6 months of oral war (mostly between fans... although the "generals" and the weapon manufacturers (A.K.A game developers) of the three forces have already exchanged quite a bit of "culture" with each other), violent (and physical) war has broken out... and the one that fired the very first bullet was the PS3 force.

A reminder to all of you who own both a PS3 and a 360: Your PS3s are armed! And they will attempt automated assassination towards your 360s if they are close to each other... so watch out!

Well, obviously, 360 and PS3 don't come along so well now... since it's war now. And to think the 360 got its Gears of War first... and the PS3 only has some futile Resistance that would lead to the Fall of Man. I'm thinking that the Cell BE inside the PS3 has something to do with this... like... it's got a mind of its own?

This kind of reminds me of one of the computers in The Sims 2. The one that is "guaranteed not to attempt automated world domination before 20XX, or your money back."

I'm still a complete Xbox360 anti. Can't help it i don't like this console, i didn't like the xbox and neither do i like the xbox360, maybe i'm prejudicing a little, but meh, i like my pc for all around stuff and emulation and will definitely get a wii because i want to have a fun gaming console, somewhen next year when the ps3's get cheaper and the good games are released i'll consider getting one of those too along with a good hd tv, right now it looks like a waste of money to me like getting a quad core now when i know they'll be getting cheaper and maybe other/better version may come out, my two cents.
