Nintendo acquires Monolith Soft
Nintendo acquires Monolith Soft :: DESTRUCTOID :: Hardcore video game blog After losing Rare, Silicon Knights and a handful of other talented second-party development contracts, Nintendo's finally on the offensive in the Corporate Circle of Life, gobbling up other companies for its own profit. Today, Bandai Namco Holdings announced that Nintendo is purchasing an 80% stake in Monolith Soft, makers of the Xenosaga trilogy and Baten Kaitos series, as well as the upcoming Disaster: Day of Crisis on the Wii. As part of the deal, Bandai Namco will retain a 16% share of the studio for its own dastardly schemes, but this news bodes well for Nintendo. On top of its own history of for-the-most-part excellent games (XSII notwithstanding -- that game makes the baby Jesus cry), Monolith Soft includes a slew of former Square employees responsible for titles like Chrono Cross and Xenogears. Years after the mass-exodus of quality RPG development that went out the door with Square prior to the Nintendo 64's advent, it looks like the big N is finally going to get some muscle in the realm of epic androgynous gaming. |

finally, just like you said, letting go of Silicon Knights was a DISASTROUS move. its not their fault they had to develop a stupid MGS remake for such a long time... i never played baten kaitos, but thanks to its brilliant finale i consider xenosaga my favorite rpg-series of the previous generation. this should definately get us some fun wii-rpgs, and HELL, Disaster: Day of Crisis msut be really quite something if they decide to buy the studio because of it... |

if this is the same monolith that did blood, PORT IT!! or at least put it on the VC. would be a little weird playing blood with a wiimote/controller but meh, it would be better than nothing.

Monolith and Monolith Soft are two different companies. Monolith is the one that made Blood,Fear and such while Monolith Soft are the ones who made Xenosaga/gears,Baten Kaiots and to be released Disaster ay of Crisis for Wii.

And everybody knows that the Xeno series have been awesome! However, it's only been a PlayStation exclusive so far. :/ I hope this would mean more quality games for the Wii... or I'll just have to pass the days with Wii sports and Zelda TP again... which is getting boring.
