A coaster. As a side note, I was extremely disappointed with pokemon (played it in Japanese when it was first released). It is the most boring one yet, I just lay on my side, half-asleep clicking OK as I chose the skills my pokemon used with extreme delay between every action. zzzzzzzzzz FFCC should be good for multiplayer, but as far as that clip though it looks like the same, boring, repetiveness of Children of Mana. Also I hope they fixed the loot system because playing FFCC on the GC causes SO many arguments between friends because people would ninja every single item that dropped, would unfairly take the 'best' items from the loot choices at the end of each level. The fights were fun, but the game wasn't very co-op friendly. In terms of gameplay, there is no doubt that Zelda will rise far above the hack and slash nature of most of the *coughs* ""adventure"" games released on the DS so far. And I'm pretty sure anyone who says otherwise either doesn't like adventure games in general, or just hasn't even played a lot of games on the DS.

qft I've played through the GC MP games several times because its fun to explore, and there's not many parts where you're forced into frustrating events. MP:H was the most annoying metroid I've ever played, and when my save got erased I had absolutely no desire to try again.

I enjoyed the game, sure it can't touch the GC games, but its designed to be a pick and play (being on a hand held and all). I thought the game had the right balance in terms of exploration and pick and ply feel. IMO that the controls gets a bit of getting used to.

it felt like a poor man's Unreal Tournament, and the single player had the depth of Blake Stone

Its a handheld game. Its meant to be played in short burst. It had all the basic core of Metroid on GC. Like collecting new power ups to go in/open new sections of a level your previously visited. *I'm fighting a losing battle*

Maybe it had the basics... and I never played the GC games, but with all the praise they've been getting, surely I hope that wasn't baseless fanboy-ism, because if the NDS game is similar to those, it means those games are really poor too.

Well I hated MP:H and loved the GC games, you would probably feel the same way, Samor (I hope). I'm not sure what xxxHolic means by short burst apart from being annoying enough to make you take a break from the game, but not so annoying that you wouldn't mind continuing the game next time you're in the car. With regards to the 'core' of the game being the same, its similar I suppose, with regards to powerups and such. But the objective of the game was extremely different to that of the GC versions. For one, MP:H only had 1 boss for the whole game, each incarnation more annoying than the last. You seem to be constantly engaging in awkward/extended fights with hunters. And the levels are pretty linear as well. In the GC MP's each boss is unique, the world is dynamic and intergrated between the levels. The encounters don't seem annoying, they seem challenging and intruiging. In MP:H the thought of having to face a new planet gave me a cringe more than anything. I'd give the GC games a shot, Samor.

MP:H also largely (not completely, though) lacks the Metroid Atmosphere (which I guess everyone knows best from Super Metroid, and which was done almost as well in Metroid Fusion). The Bounty Hunters were also kind of generic opponents; not the kind of enemy designs the series is usually known for.
