It's not news that he had been working on a PS2 version of Cave's Ketsui ~Kizuna Jigokutachi~. It's not news either that the project was declared non-viable, due to technical issues. Mihara has let us know these days that indeed he couldn't replicate the game perfectly - the game's fifth stage demands more RAM than is available on the PS2's hardware, but aside from that, PS2 Ketsui was more or less finished.
full article at | insert credit |, together with news about katamari damashii online, by the way.

Pfft.
Another lazy excuse for being unable to write proper DVD data streaming code. Hell, if someone tried to load the entire world of SotC into RAM, he'd end up requiring approx. five Gigs of it.

I don't think the DC can do that either...

perhaps, but I think the guy was going for a very accurate reproduction of the game.
mushimesama and ibara were ported to ps2, and I think they're running on superior hardware (compared to Ketsui, which the article is about).

Hmm... maybe. Still, I think that this shouldn't exclude the option to load an area only partially, at first and streaming the rest of it, later. To be honest, this would have propably never bothered me, because I know none of these games. I just wanted to rant a little, you know

I think it's the same guys who did Dodonpachi DOJ and ESPGaluda... which are supposed to be very accurate to the arcade, emulating even the slowdowns.

It seems to be that way.
Most 2D games that are ported to PS2 are simply upscaled, I think these guys from Arika didn't want to use any tricks like that.
And I have to say, when I compare for example KOF99 or KOF Evolution (they have 3D backgrounds, but they use the original resolution) on the DC to KOF2002 on the PS2, there's definately something to say for that.

Still, I think there must be a lot going on in Ketsui's stage 5 for the PS2 not being able to do it the accurate way....
