avp 2

any avp 2 or avp fans here? ive had avp 2 for a while now but i never got around to finishing the marine campaign until now due to my addiction to another fps called blood. ive got to say, although avp has been out for a few years now, its one of the few games ive played that is able to perfectly re-create the atmosphere of the movies, both the aliens and predator series. the attention to detail is incredible too, you could really tell that the people who made the game spent a lot of time analyzing the movies to get this done the way it was. and holy **** can this game make you crap your pants.

AVP is one of the few games that can still scare me. You never forget the first time you get facehuggered.

yeah i know man the aliens are so damn fast you hardly have time to react and by the time you do your surrounded getting you ass tattooed with their claws. i dont do the multiplayer thing ive always been more of a single player fanatic, but man is it intense.

i like that last level of the marine episode, the one with the "space jockey" or "pilot" ruins. its cool to explore stuff like that because the movies never went into detail on who or what the pilot ship was. they never explained if the aliens were created as bioweapons by them and then were wiped out after they lost control of them or if something else happened. i wish someday they would make another movie for the series explaining the orgin of the crashed spaceship.

Same here, but back in the days of mplayer.com I played quite a lot of AvP.

While I hadn't really played the single player portion of AvP2, I found the multiplayer to be one of the best. I have a weakness for good physics-guided grenade launchers.

I didn't like AvP2 as much as the first. Whilst I appreciated the (quite significant) storyline and intertwining stories of the three players (and the Alien lifecycle bit was cool as well), the graphics looked "cartooney" compared to the first game and this dampened the atmosphere a bit. With that said it was still scary though. The first few Marine levels rank highly in my memories of FPS games.

i havnt played the 1st yet (i ordered it a few days ago so im waiting for it). my pc can run AVP II at the maximum detail settings and at a 1280x800x32 res. the game is extremely beautiful, there is alot of dark areas but thats not there to cover up flaws in the lithtech engine or design. what settings were you able to run AVP II on?

I remember back in the day with my 500Mhz Wonder Machine™ when I tried running AVP2 on it. Minimum settings, game stuttered severely whenever you fired your weapon. In a way it was a bit like Bullet Time, it gave me thinking time to place shots.

My second PC, the AthlonXP 2400+ w/ 512MB DDR and a 64MB GeForce MX440 SE was able to run the game at max settings at 1280*1024 if I recall correctly. (And I'm guessing my X1900XT would have no problems with it.)

BTW: The first AVP has (pretty much) no cohesive storyline whatsoever like AvP2. Each character has their own objectives throughout their missions, but the game is that engrossing you won't care. If you want the true experience, watch Aliens and then play the Marine in the first AvP. It's the proper sequel.

we are talking alien vs predator 2 right. Very good multilayer game imo. I downloaded the ultimate mappack 2 the other day. IT WAS HUGE. Definitely would be nice if they made an avp 3 with updated graphics.

i was an avp whore. got avp gold and played its multiplayer for a long long time. Nothing like jumping off a ceiling on unsuspecting marines and biting them in the back of the head. AvP2, good multiplayer for a few people... no lan parties... and the single player scared the ever-lasting-piss outta me. but thats why i love it so. natural selection replaced that as somehow its multiplayer tends to scare the crap outta me and its still fun on a bun.

I only played a few minutes of that game, didn't really get into it. But I'd like to give it another go. Seems scary enough.

Yeah, and on the marine side, I liked launching a grenade at the point that they'd land after jumping in some direction.

I had a beautiful kill once... I'll never forget it: my friend playing an alien jumped from (basically) half way across the map in my direction. A well timed strafe and grenade drop at his landing point made him explode real good like.
